On December 3rd and 4th, BVIS Hanoi presented their fantastic Secondary production of ‘Seussical Jr.’ to an audience of about 600 people, comprised of staff, parents and students.  School productions, often musicals and always performed in English, are annual activities from the school.  Theatrical productions take place in all phases of the student body.

‘Seussical Jr.’ is a popular musical comedy, based on the many children's stories of Dr. Seuss, where we revisit beloved characters including The Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie, and JoJo.  This musical was a tremendous show for large groups of students who enjoy singing, and for a cast of students who enjoy playing larger than life characters.  Seussical Jr. teaches us the power of being unique, and the importance of fighting for one’s beliefs.

42 students and 2 directors completed over 80 hours of rehearsals, working extremely hard as a team to produce an entertaining musical spectacular with colourful costumes, toe-tapping tunes and energetic dance numbers. Putting on a musical production is challenging task.  Notwithstanding, the students demonstrated outstanding commitment and dedication throughout, to ensure each performance was of an excellent quality; overall, a great triumph. It has been delightful to watch the students gain greater confidence, make new friends, and, of course, develop their acting, singing and dance skills during the process.

Ms. Jessica Barrowman, the director of the show said “We have been so pleased to see the confidence gained by the many pupils who have participated this year and it has been wonderful to see the student friendships form across different age ranges. Seussical Jr. has provided our pupils with an opportunity to explore and develop all three performance disciplines of Drama, Dance and Music, to showcase their talents and to ignite a passion for the Performing Arts.”

The performance brought in a total of 26,702,000 VND for charity (mainly coming directly from ticket sales, with additional audience donations). All the money will be donated to Blue Dragon to support the people of Central Vietnam, who suffered from the catastrophic floods last month.
