In a field still dominated by men, Van Khue – a determined and sharp-minded student at the British Vietnamese International School (BVIS) Hanoi – has made a remarkable impression by receiving eight university offers from some of the world’s top institutions, including the University of Washington, Texas A&M University, and the University of Sydney. Her passion for Civil, Biomedical, and Aerospace Engineering has driven her to continuously push herself, learn relentlessly, and prove her capability in this highly challenging domain.
Throughout her nine years at BVIS Hanoi, Van Khue has achieved a series of impressive academic accomplishments, demonstrating her well-rounded excellence across both science and the humanities:
These achievements are not only the result of perseverance and discipline, but also a reflection of the high-quality education that has nurtured her passion and talent.
One of BVIS Hanoi’s distinctive strengths is its Service Learning programme, which is integrated into the core curriculum. Unlike typical volunteer projects, this approach enables students to apply their classroom knowledge in real-life settings, develop critical thinking, leadership, and a strong sense of social responsibility.
In this environment, Van Khue not only engaged in meaningful community projects, but also served as Head Student, a key leadership role that allowed her to build leadership skills early on. In this role, she helped organise school-wide events, supported teachers, and led student-driven community initiatives — all of which helped her grow in confidence, time management, collaboration, and problem-solving.
During her university application journey, Van Khue received valuable support from her family, the university counselling team, and her teachers. She explored opportunities beyond the classroom, including participation in a blood cancer research programme.
She also led science demonstrations for Year 5 students, organised Mid-Autumn Festival events and lantern-making activities in a small local community, and spoke with war veterans. Together with peers, she co-led Project CHAMELLIA, travelling to Yen Bai to teach English to primary students.
Additionally, she participated in the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and Silver Awards, where she challenged herself with camping, trekking, and cycling, gaining valuable life experience, independence, and teamwork skills.
Not only is Van Khue fluent in English and strong in the sciences, she also benefited from BVIS Hanoi’s unique international curriculum — based on the English National Curriculum, while integrating Vietnamese language, history, and cultural education at the secondary level.
This well-rounded bilingual foundation gives her both the global mindset and cultural grounding to confidently pursue further study abroad and potentially return to contribute to Vietnam’s technological and scientific development. With her ability to navigate between two languages and cultures, she holds a unique advantage in connecting with top research organisations and tech enterprises both locally and internationally.
Behind every milestone in Van Khue’s journey is the unwavering support of BVIS Hanoi’s outstanding teaching staff — especially her science teachers and university counsellors. The subject teachers helped her master complex academic content, while also encouraging creativity, curiosity, and real-world application.
Personalised support from the University Guidance Counsellor helped her build a strong application portfolio — from choosing the right course, writing a compelling personal statement, to preparing for interviews. This strategic guidance played a critical role in securing her multiple offers and academic merit scholarships from prestigious institutions.
BVIS Hanoi has provided Van Khue with an ideal learning environment, where she has not only excelled academically but also gained the confidence, skills, and global outlook to thrive anywhere in the world.
With her drive, passion, and the solid foundation built at BVIS, Van Khue is living proof that young women can achieve great success in engineering - a field long perceived as male-dominated.
Her journey ahead will no doubt be filled with new challenges, but with sharp thinking, courage, and leadership, Van Khue is ready to leave her mark in the digital age and the future of innovation.
