Dear Families
On Thursday evening I had the pleasure of attending the annual Sports Award Evening. An amazing night celebrating the many talents and successes across the year for our sporting heroes. Well done everyone.
Today the Primary School spent the morning celebrating the many, many achievements of our younger students in sport and performing arts. Yet again there were an enormous amount of talent to celebrate. Well done to all the students and staff.
Primary concluded the day with a talent show. Again, an incredible amount of talent on show for all to see. Congratulations to all students who took part in the show.
We are making the final preparations for our Year 13 Graduation Ceremony where we say farewell to over 80 graduates from the school. This is the largest ever cohort of A Level students at the school. It promises to be a fantastic evening of celebration.
Thank you to all those who have completed the parent pulse survey. The survey will close at the end of May. Thank you
Another reminder, that summer school will run this year again and is filling up fast. Please sign up soon to avoid disappointment.
I wish you all a very relaxing weekend ahead.
On Friday morning, we hosted a special awards event celebrating the outstanding achievements in sports and performing arts for children in Years 4, 5, and 6. It was a wonderful occasion where we recognised the impressive talents in sports, music, dance, and drama. The event was well attended by proud parents, making it a memorable celebration of our children's hard work and dedication. Thank you to everyone who joined us!
In Term 2, we are pleased to welcome two colleagues from BVIS Ho Chi Minh City to BVIS Hanoi: Ms. Ha Nguyen (Vietnamese Coordinator) and Ms. Rioghnach Devine (English Coordinator). We have invited them to conduct learning walks in English and Vietnamese lessons and to join meetings with Mr. Matthew (English Lead), Ms. Hòa Bùi (Vietnamese Lead), and the Year 1 and Year 6 teachers to discuss phonics, the curriculum, assessment, and especially writing moderation.
We were delighted to receive a great deal of positive feedback from our colleagues at BVIS Ho Chi Minh City, noting that the quality of English and Vietnamese writing at both schools is very comparable. Ms. Ha Nguyen was particularly impressed with Year 6 Vietnamese writing and shared many compliments about how well the Year 6 students are performing in Vietnamese. Additionally, we feel fortunate to learn many great ideas from Ms. Ha and Ms. Rioghnach. Our colleagues plan to work more closely in the future and continue sharing best practices.
We are very proud of our teachers and look forward to continuing our collaboration with BVIS Ho Chi Minh City as well as with other Nord Anglia schools.
This week in the Early Years department, our F3 children have been exploring the wonders of the solar system, learning about the planets and continuing to practise naming numbers with growing confidence. In F2, the focus has been on developing listening skills and voice control through fun and engaging activities. Meanwhile, our F1 children have been diving into the underwater world, discovering and learning about a variety of sea animals. It’s been a week full of curiosity, creativity, and joyful learning!
Year 1 have started their swimming lessons with great enthusiasm and excitement. The children have been learning skills such as kicking, walking in the water, practising breathing techniques, playing water games, and familiarising themselves with water safety rules. With the guidance of our dedicated PE teachers, the children quickly gained confidence and had a lot of fun in each session. Swimming is such an important life skill, and we’re thrilled to see the children enjoying every moment of their learning experience and eagerly taking part.
This week in Year 2, the children have continued to enjoy themselves in our Treasure Islands topic. They have particularly enjoyed learning to recite our class pirate story, Sally the Pirate Princess, using actions and expression to help them remember the key events and language. This has supported both their storytelling skills and confidence when speaking aloud. In IPC, the children learned to tie simple pirate knots, using practical skills to understand how pirates may have secured sails or fastened cargo on board. They also explored pirate language, identifying common phrases and learning their meanings, which led to some great role-play sessions. It's been a hands-on and engaging week that has combined elements of history, geography, and teamwork, all through the exciting theme of life at sea.
Year 3 launched their new topic, Temples, Tombs and Treasures, with an exciting entry point activity. Students became ancient Egyptian explorers on a problem-solving treasure hunt around the school, using hieroglyphics to crack codes and uncover the Pharaoh’s hidden treasure!
This week, our Year 4 students had an exciting and hands-on learning experience during their IPC lesson as they worked together to design and build 3D volcano models. With creativity and skill, the children used familiar recycled materials such as newspaper, plastic bottles, cardboard, glue, and paint to bring their volcano designs to life in a fun and meaningful way.
Through this project, the students not only explored the structure and function of volcanoes but also developed important skills in teamwork, design thinking, and environmental awareness. It was a fantastic example of active, cross-curricular learning in our IPC programme!
On Friday, Year 5 welcomed students from Nhan Chinh School. We played lots of games together, created collaborative artwork and had a go at communicating in sign language. It was a wonderful morning, full of laughter and fun, and Year 5 represented BVIS Hanoi very well!
This week, the Year 6 students focused on expanding their vocabulary across different subjects – English, Vietnamese, and IPC. Vocabulary is one of the most important tools in learning. A strong vocabulary helps children understand what they read, express their ideas clearly in both speaking and writing, and build confidence when tackling new topics.
To deepen their understanding of new words, students took part in a range of fun and engaging activities. They played games, repeated and practised key vocabulary, completed quizzes, drew illustrations, and wrote their own sentences to show how the words could be used. These strategies helped make the new vocabulary meaningful, memorable, and fun to learn.
On Thursday night we had our Annual Sports Awards. This was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our committed, hardworking and dedicated student athletes and their amazing coaches!
Mr Chris Kitchen (Head of PE) said....
‘Our sports awards aren’t just about trophies or medals—it’s about culture, and more specifically, the evolution of our Dragons culture.
Over the past two years, in every training session, match, and team talk, we've focused on values and growth mindsets. But that can only make an impact when supported by strong relationships. The bond between teammates, connection between coaches and athletes, and across year groups, these are the foundations of everything we’ve achieved this year and anything positive that is to come will be borne of them.’
Our Dragons Teams have had an incredibly successful year and seeing our students proudly receive recognition for their efforts and achievements was amazing!
Today we are delighted to be able to publish the Term 3 Edition of Ignite Magazine!
