Dear Families
As we race towards the end of the academic year there is much to look forward to.
I had the pleasure of attending the first ever EYFS sports day yesterday. A really fun event with lots of parents there in support. A huge thanks and well done to Ms Cerys and the EYFS Team, Ms Ellie and the PE team for organising and supporting such a great event.
Last night our Year 3 students had their annual sleepover. When I visited them in the library I could see the excitement on their faces. A huge thanks to Mr Conor, the Year 3 team and all staff who supported the sleep over event.
Our Year 11 students have now finished their formal IGCSE examinations and we wish them the very best of luck with their final results.
This week Year 7,8,9 and 10 attended their residential, a great way to finish the year.
We are now making final preparations for the Year 13 Graduation ceremony. We are looking forward to a great event where we bid farewell to our 82 Year 13 graduates on 13th June.
Next Wednesday we are hosting an art exhibition following a secondary drama performance to showcase the work of our extremely talented secondary students. I hope many of you will be able to attend.
Finally a reminder that we still have some spaces left on our summer school program, please sign up asap to avoid disappointment.
I wish you all a very relaxing weekend ahead.
BVIS Hanoi was thrilled to host the very first Early Years Sports Day this week - a joyful celebration of movement, teamwork, and fun! A big thank you to all the parents who came along to cheer and support; your presence made the day even more special. It was truly heartwarming to see the excitement and pride on the children’s faces as they came together to show what they could achieve. Their enthusiasm and energy made for an unforgettable event!
As part of their topic "We Are What We Eat", Year 1 students have been exploring the five food groups and learning how each group helps our bodies stay healthy. Through fun and interactive lessons, the children now understand the importance of eating a balanced diet. But that’s not all — they also discovered how to take care of their teeth! From brushing techniques to understanding which foods are good or bad for dental health, our students are becoming little health experts.
This week in Year 2, the children have been having lots of fun. In English, we’ve been developing our grammar and descriptive language skills by identifying adjectives, verbs, adverbs, and similes in different texts. The children really impressed us with their ability to spot these features and even started using them in their own writing to make it more interesting and imaginative.
As part of their ‘Treasure Islands’ topic in IPC, the children learned how to read and follow grid maps. They worked in teams to solve pirate map challenges using coordinates and then had the chance to design and label their own treasure maps.
In Maths, they have been learning how to tell the time, focusing on reading clocks. The children enjoyed using real and interactive clocks to practice setting and reading different times. They even got to make their own!
In IPC, Year 3 have been learning lots of interesting things about life in Ancient Egypt. They learnt about the mummification process, found out what was discovered in Tutankhamun's tomb, and watched a cool video made by Mr. Bradley, all about papyrus. They also made their own papyrus using strips of paper and glue. Some students have made some wonderful artwork based on Ancient Egypt for the Year 3 Art Competition.
This week, Year 4 students truly impressed us with their outstanding teamwork while creating 3D volcano models. Each group followed instructions with clarity and enthusiasm, taking initiative to assign roles thoughtfully and work efficiently together. Their ability to communicate, collaborate, and stay focused on a shared goal was both inspiring and commendable.
Great job, Year 4 — your cooperation and creativity continue to amaze us!
In IPC, Year 5 created a large model of the respiratory system on the playground. The students took on the role of red blood cells, actively moving oxygen and carbon dioxide through the heart, lungs, and around the body. It was a fun and interactive way to deepen their understanding of how the respiratory and circulatory systems work together.
This week, our Year 6 students took us on a magical journey to the land of Being Ready, Being Respectful, and Being Caring as they led their final celebration assembly. With confidence and pride, they shared special memories from their final year of primary school, reflecting on the friendships, learning, and milestones that shaped their journey.
They spoke beautifully in English as they guided us through the assembly, showcasing their communication skills and maturity. Through expressive dance and heartfelt reflections, they celebrated who they have become and all they have achieved.
It was a joyful and touching farewell to an incredible group of students, and a reminder of just how ready they are for the exciting road ahead. Well done, Year 6 — we are so proud of you!
This week our students have had an amazing time on their Residential experiences.
Year 7 enjoyed a trip to Ninh Binh which included a visit to Bich Dong Pagoda, a boat trip in Thung Nham bird park and trekking in Cuc Phuong National Park.
Year 8 students travelled to Cat Ba where they visited Butterfly valley and Trung Trang cave, tried their hand at kayaking and rock climbing and had fun completing a treasure hunt in Viet Hai Village.
Year 9 had an awesome time in Mai Chau, they engaged in meaningful and beneficial community work as part of the Green Community Initiative, hiked to Chieu Cave, developed their culinary skills in a cooking class and had fun kayaking and raft building.
Year 10 travelled to beautiful Sapa where they took a trip on the Fansipan cable car, admired the Love Waterfall, cooked some delicious food in a cooking class and had a blast on the mountain rollercoaster! A huge thank you to all of the staff who led these fantastic trips for our students
Last week, a group of our Year 6, 7 and 8 students had an incredible experience at the NAE STEAM Festival in Bangkok. This hands-on event brought together students from across Asia and gave ours the chance to work on real-world problems, explore Thai culture, and develop their creativity and confidence in new ways.
The festival began with some brilliant Thai culture workshops, where students took part in traditional crafting and dance. It was a great way to dive into the local culture and connect with students from other schools in a relaxed, fun setting. Then the STEAM challenges kicked off and our students took part in a series of practical workshops on product design, digital creativity and pitching skills. Working in mixed teams with students from other NAE schools, they were set a big challenge: to come up with a solution to reduce waste in schools. Over two days, they researched, designed, tested and refined their ideas, before presenting them at the Eco Expo to a panel of judges.
It was amazing to see how quickly they built friendships, collaborated with others, and threw themselves into new experiences. The event wasn’t just about science and technology, it was also about confidence, communication, and creative problem-solving. We are really proud of how our students represented the school, not just in the quality of their ideas, but in the way they supported each other, showed curiosity, and embraced every part of the festival. It was an inspiring few days, and they’ve come back full of ideas and energy for future STEAM challenges.
The year 12 Further Mathematics students have just sat their full A-level in Mathematics one year early and are now starting to study for their Further Mathematics A-level. The Further Mathematics A-level is designed for those students who show a great passion for mathematics and have demonstrated a high level of mathematical ability in their IGCSEs. The course has many difficult topics that other students will not learn until they get to university and study towards a maths related degree. This includes 2nd order differential equations, summations involving complex numbers, Maclaurin series, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, and polar coordinates. There are also lots of practical components in Statistics and Mechanics such as probability generating functions, hypothesis testing samples of data to draw conclusions, circular motion in three dimensions and elastic potential energy. As it is widely understood that the mathematics in the course is very advanced, universities will value this A-level very highly on a student’s application. Therefore, students who are interested in pursuing a degree or career in a maths related field should seriously consider taking this A-level to increase their knowledge and understanding of key mathematical concepts whilst also improving their university application.
