Ready for What’s Next

This week, all the Early Years classes have been focusing on their transition to the next academic year group—a key part of their end-of-year journey. Throughout the year, each class has made remarkable developmental progress: F1 children have built essential self-help skills, F2 have grown in independence, and F3 have become confident, independent learners.

Transition plays a vital role in helping children feel prepared and excited for the year ahead. Next week, the children will take another big step as they meet their new teachers for next year.

Confidence, Communication, and Care

Last week, Year 1 ended the term with a fantastic Exit Point performance, highlighting the importance of healthy eating and how to maintain a healthy lifestyle through moving our bodies and brushing our teeth.

Each child had the opportunity to speak in English, sing, and dance – proudly sharing what they’ve learned. Even more impressive was the growth in communication, confidence, and social-emotional skills.

We’re incredibly proud of them all!

Exploring Science and Storytelling

In Year 2, we have had a fantastic time investigating the scientific concepts of floating and sinking through hands-on experiments. They made thoughtful predictions, tested a variety of objects, and discussed their results like real scientists. In English, we focused on character development, and the children worked hard to improve their writing by adding descriptive adjectives. From brave pirates to greedy treasure hunters, their stories are becoming more vivid and imaginative every day!

Year 3 Sleepover Adventure

Our Year 3 students had an unforgettable sleepover at school. It was their first time staying overnight with their friends, and everyone felt so excited. The evening was packed with fun activities like sports games, arts and crafts, and a movie night full of laughter. The talent show was a big hit, where students confidently performed songs and dances. After that, they danced their hearts out at the disco under colorful lights. Sharing this experience helped them build teamwork, friendship, and maturity. Sleeping at school was a brand-new adventure, and many students said it was their favorite part. The sleepover was a wonderful memory filled with joy, courage, and connection.

Year 4 Erupts with Knowledge in Volcano Information Texts!

This week, Year 4 students channelled their inner geologists to create exciting and detailed information texts about volcanoes. With scissors snipping and glue sticks in action, each child worked hard to cut, organise, and present their facts clearly. From lava flows to tectonic plates, their pages were bursting with fascinating knowledge and creative presentation. We’re proud of how students used key skills like planning, editing, teamwork, and layout design to bring their work to life.

Fantastic job, Year 4 — your writing is explosive in all the best ways!

Exploring Vision Through Camera Obscuras

Year 5 students constructed camera obscuras to better understand the function of the human eye. By creating these simple devices, they were able to explore how light travels in straight lines and enters through a small opening to form an image. This hands-on activity helped them see how the eye works in a similar way—light enters through the pupil, is focused by the lens, and forms an image on the retina. Building and observing the camera obscuras gave them a practical insight into how we see the world around us.

Scientists in the Making: Exploring Forces and Air Resistance!

Last week, our classrooms were full of curious minds and creative experiments as students explored the fascinating world of forces and motion. In one exciting activity, students investigated how different balls fall. Dropping balls of various sizes and weights from the same height, they predicted which would hit the ground first—and were surprised to discover that heavier objects don't always fall faster! This experiment led to rich discussions about gravity, mass, and how forces act on objects.

Next, students turned their attention to air resistance by designing and testing their own paper helicopters. Each child experimented with wing length, paper type, and drop height to see how these changes affected how slowly or quickly their helicopter fell. They learned how air pushes against moving objects and how we can use this resistance to slow things down—just like real parachutes! These hands-on activities encouraged teamwork, questioning, and discovery.

The Elderly Club visit BVIS

It was an honour for BVIS Hanoi to host an exchange event with the Khuong Dinh Elderly Club at our secondary campus on Thursday. The atmosphere was filled with joy as students performed heartfelt songs for the elderly, creating a vibrant connection through music. After the performances, everyone joined in singing and dancing, bridging the generation gap with laughter and shared experiences. The event also featured engaging games that encouraged interaction and bonding.

Over the years, the friendship between BVIS students and the elderly at KD Elderly Club has flourished through meaningful exchange events. When visiting the elderly club, our students have immersed themselves in traditional culture by learning folk songs and dances, as well as mastering the art of making Bánh Chưng. These interactions have fostered a vibrant community where both generations learn from one another.

Today's event has strengthened the sense of companionship, as students and elderly members exchanged stories and experiences. The joy of singing, dancing and playing together not only enriches students' cultural understanding but also brings happiness to the elderly, who cherish the youthful energy and enthusiasm.

A big thank you to the student leadership team for organizing such a wonderful event, creating joyful moments and meaningful connections across generations.

Global Campus Art Competition Update

We announced our school winners of the Global Campus Art Competition earlier this year, and we then sent those entries off to be judged in the global competition.

Over 12,000 Nord Anglia students took part in the art competition, and 142 entries were submitted in the global competition, from 58 school campuses.

We have now received the results of the global competition, and we are now extremely proud and excited to announce that Lam Anh Trinh in 9V and her art piece Scars has been judged as runner up in her age group!

These are the comments for Lam Anh’s piece from Laura Watkins, the guest judge of the competition:

'A wonderful creative concept. Great to see the experimentation of different textures used. The image beautifully tells a story. The artwork is emotional, powerful and elegantly finished. Very great work!'

Everyone at BVIS Hanoi is extremely proud of Lam Anh and her achievement!
