Term 1 Practical Science

This term has been full of curiosity, creativity, and plenty of hands-on discovery in Science. Our Year 7 students have started their Life Under the Lens unit, learning how microscopes open up a hidden world of cells and structures. Year 8 are exploring Life Below Water, investigating the amazing diversity of marine organisms and how they survive in their environments. In Year 9, the focus is on Genetics, as students uncover how traits are inherited and why variation makes each of us unique. For our IGCSE and A-level students, practical work is integral in supporting their learning across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics as they prepare for their exams.
Practical science is at the heart of all these topics and this week our students have investigated density, observed cells under the microscope and even visualised DNA extracted from fruit. These experiments don’t just reinforce theory, they spark curiosity, build problem-solving skills, and let students experience the excitement of science first-hand.

Year 12 Further Mathematics Activity practice

Students can flourish when learning through collaborative activities such as puzzles and physical card sorting tasks. Problem-solving in a team builds intuition, reveals multiple solution paths, and strengthens reasoning under pressure. Peer discussion challenges assumptions, clarifies misconceptions, and fosters resilience. These activities provide engaging, low-stakes practice that complements formal study and deepens mathematical fluency at A level.
