Dear Families
It was so nice to see so many Grandparents attend our special event last Friday. Thank you for attending.
It was great to see so many secondary students sign up and commit to the upcoming residentials in October, I'm sure they are going to have a brilliant time.
We continue to run many parent events and there have been so many over the last week or so. thank you to all those parents who have attended any of the sessions. We hope you found them useful.
I wish you all a very relaxing weekend ahead.
In Early Years, the children develop a love of stories through acting, singing, and reading for pleasure.
On Grandparents’ Day, Year 1 children read poems for grandpa and sang songs for grandma. They made orange juice to serve their grandparents. They also created photo frames as special gifts.
Year 2 have been focusing on speaking and listening. Each morning, they learned English and Vietnamese songs and performed them on Grandparents’ Day. The children also acted as judges, using simple rules to check friends’ speaking. Day by day, their speaking grows more confident and clear.
Year 3 read about and identified the different rainforests around the world, building their understanding of global geography.
On Grandparents Day, Year 5 students and their grandparents enjoyed traditional leaf games as well as familiar childhood games such as Ô ăn quan, Cá ngựa, and Chơi chuyền. Grandparents also shared stories from their own childhood, helping the children appreciate even more the blessings they have today.
In Vietnamese Humanities, Year 6 explored the traditional art of weaving together, learning about natural materials such as bamboo and rattan and how to process them.
The Newsletter this week is all about our ECAs and gives a flavour of just some of the activities students have on offer each week!
This term, students in the Props and Set Design ECA have been collaborating to design and create items that will enhance the production of The Addams Family. The group has been exploring creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork while preparing pieces that will add character and atmosphere to the show.
Each week students head to the Royal City Ice Rink to practice their skating skills and have lots of fun!
Students in the Duke of Edinburgh ECA took a short trip out to Decathlon to look at the equipment options for the expedition sections of their award. Students evaluated the pro's and con's of different style hiking boots, the varying qualities of waterproof equipment and options for sleeping comfy while camping. This was also an important opportunity for students to bond as they start preparing for the practice expedition.
This term, our Curiosity Club has been busy exploring science through hands-on challenges. In Week 1, students launched their own rockets, learning about force and motion. In Week 2, they designed creative prototypes, and this week they tested their engineering skills by building boats to see which could carry the most marbles before sinking.
In the Catan (boardgame) ECA, students engage in a simulated trading and resource management scenario. Placed into groups, the students represent different settlements where they collect basic resources like wood, brick, sheep, wheat, and iron ore. Students then negotiate trades, build roads and settlements, and compete by using strategies to expand their territory: all while facing challenges such as resource scarcity and outside competition . This ECA activity promotes teamwork, critical thinking, and key economic concepts: it can even be linked to the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals, all whilst providing a fun, socially-interactive session.
This ECA supports students to develop their wellbeing skills by learning breathing techniques, yoga asanas (positions) and meditation. Students progress through simple asanas, moving with the breath to bring focus and calm to their mind. Each sesion introduces new asanas and flows, beginning by centering the body and mind, and finishing with relaxation or meditation.
In this club, students learn about and practice playing some traditional Vietnamese games. This is a time when students completely disconnect from their phones and iPads and have the chance to explore more about Vietnamese culture through these games. At the same time, it helps enhance skills such as teamwork, endurance, and flexibility.
In this ECA, students step into the magical world of Harry Potter in this creative craft club! Each week, students make their own props and creatures inspired by the books and movies – from custom wands to magical creatures like Bowtruckles and Cornish Pixies. It’s the perfect club for Potter fans who enjoy hands-on, imaginative crafting. Students bring their creativity – and maybe a little Felix Felicis – as they make magical items come to life!
Each focuses on a specific theme and includes inspirational quotes from influential figures or literature.
Students discuss the quotes, share their thoughts, and write a short paragraph reflecting on the message.
This activity helps students develop critical thinking, emotional awareness, and writing skills.
