On next Wednesday morning we will formally be opening the new Primary Canteen. We have a limited number of spaces available and if you wish to attend please follow the link below:
Next Friday the school will come alive as we celebrate the Moon Festival. I am looking forward to seeing the many performances and celebrations on this day.
I wish you all a very relaxing and safe weekend ahead.
Last week, nine of our Year 6 student leaders had the exciting opportunity to travel to BIS Ho Chi Minh City for a three-day leadership conference. There, they met with peers from our three sister schools and worked closely together to explore what leadership means and how it can make a positive difference in our schools.
Throughout the event, they took part in a range of engaging tasks and activities, with a special focus on sustainability. The conference concluded with the students confidently presenting and sharing the ideas they had developed in their workshops. Our students represented the school wonderfully and gained so much from this inspiring experience.
In EYFS, the children are developing their imaginative play. They act out stories, take part in role-play based on real-life experiences, and build their language skills through creative interactions.
Year 1 have been learning all about fairytale characters! The children enjoyed exploring characters such as kings, queens, dragons, and mermaids. They also practiced writing simple sentences using pronouns he / she / it at the beginning of their sentence.
Year 2 really enjoyed their STEAM lessons. They learned about dirty water in some parts of the world and shared ideas on how to make it clean. The children asked great questions, worked well in groups, and showed creativity. We were proud of their teamwork and problem-solving skills.
In Year 3, Children explored their identity through a creative flower activity, with each petal representing a unique part of who they are. They included details about their hobbies, family, culture, and dreams. Using bright colours and drawings, they expressed themselves with pride and imagination. Sharing their flowers with friends helped build connections and confidence. It was a joyful way to celebrate individuality in our classroom.
Year 4 have been corresponding with students in Switzerland, sharing information about their favourite things and their life in Vietnam.
When learning how to describe what is happening in a setting, Year 5 showed confidence in a variety of speaking and listening activities, pronouncing words with increasing accuracy and clarity. They showed a strong understanding of a variety of grammar structures through their ‘Functional Grammar’ activities and applied this in their own creative writing.
Year 6 students joyfully explored Vietnamese culture by making paper fans and Dong Ho paintings, practicing creativity, teamwork, and celebrating tradition.
Eight of our talented performers recently took to the stage for a captivating LAMDA (London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art) Showcase, giving audiences a taste of the work students have been preparing for their upcoming LAMDA Solo Acting Exam. These exams are among the world’s most prestigious and competitive performance assessments. Designed to develop confident communication and exceptional acting technique, these graded exams are recognised across the country—and beyond—for their rigorous standards and professional-level expectations. Students who successfully obtain this qualification will be able to highlight this on any college/university application and also stand out to future employers. The exam is highly regarded and can even reduce entry requirements to UK universities!
Our students have shown incredible dedication, rehearsing tirelessly during break times, lunchtimes, and even before school hours. Their showcase demonstrated not only their growing mastery of monologue work but also their resilience, creativity, and passion for the dramatic arts. I am very proud of how much every student has grown and developed whilst studying this course and cannot wait to see their final performances!
Last week, our senior students from Key Stages 4 and 5 had the opportunity to participate in Blue Dragon workshops focused on topics of Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour. These workshops are designed to enhance our students' social knowledge, skills, and capacities, empowering them to take the lead in extra-curricular activities. Congratulations to all students who have actively engaged and contributed to these events!!
Lego club has now started at BVIS and we have some amazing students building amazing things including The British Spitfire and the German Panzer III Tank. The club is designed to further nurture and develop a love for history in a fun and engaging way. History can sometimes feel distant or too difficult to engage with so using Lego to explore it makes it come alive. Plus, the club creates a nice, quiet space for students during lunch. It’s a chance for students to build, collaborate, and dive into historical events while enjoying some downtime with friends.
Students in Year 12 Humanities Diploma have been studying a topic called Problem Plastic over the last few weeks. This has culminated in a final project where students have created an informative poster or magazine article to outline (a) What is plastic pollution? (b) What are the impacts of plastic pollution? (c) How can we be more sustainable? The unit of work directly links to BVIS Hanoi's aims to deliver sustainable education and supported the learning for SDG 12 and 14 and UNCRC 3 and 24.
Year 10 Computer Science students are making impressive progress in their study of measurement units. Their enthusiasm and engagement have set a strong foundation for the course ahead.
Year 13 students have been learning about the characteristics and outcomes of perfect competition, focusing on short-run and long-run market outcomes for firms in perfectly competitive markets.
