Dear Families,
I trust you all had a wonderful half-term break with your families. It is great to see all the students back in school.
Just before the break we sent a significant emergency relief package to provinces in the north to aid with the flood devastation that has occurred. This week we have launched our community appeal and I'd like to thank you all for your support and ongoing donations.

This week and next we have been focusing on service learning and many of our students have been out in the community engaging in many inspiring and useful activities. Well done everyone.
Next week we will be delighted to host Erin Wright from the Julliard School New York. She will be at our school for two days working with staff and students to inspire and further enhance our performing arts curriculum. We look forward to seeing her again.

Just a reminder that we have launched our family referral scheme 25/25. See the link below for further details. I am pleased to say we have already had a great deal of interest in the scheme that will benefit many families.

I wish you all a very relaxing weekend ahead.

Our Early Years children were so excited to explore our growing garden! We loved discovering new growth and caring for our plants together.

To kick off our new IPC topic, The Magic Toymaker, the Year 1 children enjoyed a fun-filled Teddy Bears Picnic! They brought along their favourite toys to share with friends and joined exciting games such as the Magic Box – Guess the Toy and a Toys Scavenger Hunt. It was a wonderful start to our magical learning journey together!

Year 2 started Term 1B with their first activities around the topic Superhuman. The children explored how to make a lung model to demonstrate how the lungs work and learned about the steps in an instruction text for making the model. Group activities during lessons helped the children support one another and work together effectively to achieve their learning goals.

Year 3 students have just embarked on an exciting new topic called Footprints from the Past! To spark their curiosity, we began with a creative Vietnamese lesson that linked perfectly to our theme. The children made dinosaur eggs from clay and crafted tiny dinosaurs to hide inside. This hands-on activity allowed them to explore colors, experiment with textures, and develop fine motor skills while shaping and decorating their eggs. Beyond the artistic aspect, the project encouraged collaboration and confident communication as students shared ideas and worked together in small groups. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and teamwork shine through, making the classroom buzz with energy. This fun and imaginative start has set the stage for a fascinating journey into the world of dinosaurs.

This week, Year 4 created instructions for a robot to make a jam sandwich.

This week, Year 5 launched their new IPC topic, Space Scientists, with an exciting astronaut training challenge! The students showed outstanding grit, teamwork, and determination as they completed a series of astronaut fitness and problem-solving tasks. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and curiosity shining as they prepared to “blast off” into their learning about space exploration. Well done, space cadets — the mission has begun!

Year 6 launched their new IPC topic Making the News by performing imaginative news skits with props, showcasing teamwork, creativity and confident English speaking.

Before the holiday 51 of our students took part in the UKMT Senior Mathematical Challenge. We will find out in 6-8 weeks how well they did!

In the last week of term, our Y12 students, Head of Year Ms Laura and the Y12 tutors travelled to beautiful Dalat for a week of fun and adventure! Students tried a range of thrilling activities including a high ropes course, stand up paddleboarding, abseiling and canyoning. All of these high adrenaline activities were balanced with a cooking class, coffee farm visit, and gala dinner! This was a fantastic experience for all students and a great way to start their sixth form experience at BVIS.

Achieving 1 gold medal and 1 silver medal at the world's mathematics championships is an incredible accomplishment. Being in the top 20 overall and earning a golden ticket to the finals in Melbourne is a testament to hard work and talent. Keep shining!

A Year 9 student: Senarya Ahmed, created an outstanding Science project on variation. She designed a colourful and engaging game, complete with hand-crafted figures, to help explain the concept in a fun and creative way. Her project truly stood out for its originality, effort, and enthusiasm — a wonderful example of learning through creativity!
