Dear Families
It has been another fantastic week here at BVIS Hanoi.
On Thursday the school came alive as we celebrated World Children's Day and Teachers' Day. I had the pleasure of meeting some Primary students who were taking over the school for the day! A massive thank you for all the kind gifts and flowers you sent to the school. Our staff really appreciate your incredible kindness.

I am delighted to see that parent attendance at the secondary PTCs has improved dramatically. On Tuesday evening 95% of Year 11 parents attended the PTC to meet teachers. This is incredible and I would like to thank you all for your support.
A reminder please if you have not done so already to complete the annual parent survey, we really would like to hear from you.

We are making final preparations for the Christmas Fair and it promises to be a fun filled event for all your family and friends. Please register for your tickets soon to avoid disappointment.

I wish you all a very relaxing weekend ahead.

In Early Years, the children are developing their early maths skills. They are practising counting, exploring numbers, and naming shapes they find in the environment.

F3 – measurements and capacity
Year 1 and Year 6 spent time reading together and drawing pictures of their favourite story characters.

Year 2 have been learning about how exercise affects our lungs and our breathing. We carried out an experiment to measure how many breaths we take after different activities. After each activity, we counted our breaths per minute to see how our breathing changed. This helped us understand that our lungs work harder when our bodies need more oxygen.

This week, Year 3 students became young palaeontologists! They explored the fascinating world of dinosaur fossils and discovered how scientists use these important clues to learn about dinosaurs from millions of years ago.
Students examined different types of fossils, discussed what they can tell us about dinosaur bodies and behaviours, and learned how palaeontologists piece together these findings to understand what dinosaurs looked like.

Hats off to Year 4! They proved that Maths is anything but boring by stepping into the role of genuine game designers. Focusing on Multiplication and Division by 10 and 100, the pupils personally crafted vibrant and unique learning games. The high level of enthusiasm and creativity was evident in every game square, helping them not only to understand the lesson but also to confidently master the knowledge in a truly fun way.

This week in IPC Year 5 have been exploring our own planet – first making our own compasses to reveal the Earth’s natural magnetic field, and then making stop motion animations to demonstrate the phases of the moon as seen from our planet.

In Year 6, the students explored measurement through hands-on estimating and comparing, discovering that measuring is not just about numbers but about careful observation and reasoning.

This year, Year 8’s exchange events with Khuong Dinh Intergeneration Club (KD elderly) offered our students chance to learn traditional drumming, Múa Chèo - a folk dance that celebrates local heritage, insightful conversation and some delicious traditional treats. The interaction fostered mutual respect, caring, and especially helped tackling generation gap problems which is becoming increasingly popular in modern society.

We have now begun the interview process for our student leadership applications, including both Head Student and Prefect roles, and have been truly impressed by the calibre of candidates. Students have arrived well prepared, articulating their vision with confidence, clarity, and genuine passion for improving our school community. Their thoughtful ideas and professional conduct have made a remarkable impression on the interview panel, resulting in an incredibly strong—and equally challenging—selection process.
Our new KS3 Curiosity Club has had a vibrant and exciting start to the term, led brilliantly by our Year 13 science ambassadors. Each week, students explore a scientific idea through a hands-on experiment, building both their understanding and their confidence in the lab.
In Week 1, students investigated solubility by creating a “Rainbow in a Glass.” Using sugar solutions of different concentrations and a steady hand, they layered coloured liquids to form a beautifully striped rainbow. The students were fascinated to see how density changes with sugar content and how careful pipetting keeps the layers separate.
For Week 2, the room was full of gasps as students made “Water Fireworks.” Using water, oil, and drops of food colouring, they watched bursts of colour fall slowly through the oil layer and explode into swirling patterns below. This simple experiment helped them understand immiscible liquids and the way food colouring dissolves in water but not in oil.

Our Year 13 student leaders (My Linh Duong, Ngoc Ngan Ha Nguyen and Yoonje Lee) have been exceptional, explaining the science clearly, supporting younger students and creating an atmosphere where curiosity and creativity truly thrive. It has been wonderful to see our younger scientists so engaged, asking questions, and keen to try each step themselves.
We look forward to many more weeks of fun, safe, and spectacular science!
