Dear Families
Thank you for your incredible support through this short half term.
Last weekend we had a group of four students who travelled to Thailand to take part in the finals of the 'FOBISIA Battle of the Bands' A huge congratulations to all the staff and students involved.

Whilst I was in London last week, I was able to launch our very first Alumni event and met up with a number of past students from BVIS. It was great to see them all.

Last week I spent my time in the UK to interview prospective teachers for BVIS. I met some fantastic teachers and look forward to welcoming some of them to the school next year.

Today we celebrated TET across the two campuses. It was a wonderful and vibrant day here at the school. Well done everyone.
A reminder about our two school summer school programs are below:

I wish you all a very happy TET holiday ahead with your families.
School will reopen for students on Wednesday 25th February.

Children in F3 are making great progress in their writing. They can form letters correctly and are able to write simple words and captions independently.

During the Vietnamese IPC lesson, the children explored the flavours of Tết through a Tết Dried Fruit Box Design activity. To begin with, they observed a traditional Tết dried fruit box, discussing the meaning of different colours, the decorative designs on the packaging, and learning about the various types of dried fruits inside. The children then enthusiastically took part in a blindfolded tasting challenge, guessing the flavours and sharing which dried fruits they liked or disliked, along with their reasons. To conclude the session, the pupils expressed their creativity by designing their own Tết dried fruit boxes.

In Vietnamese lesson, Year 2 composed original verses about colours, animals, and the challenges these creatures face. Through these poems, the students want to share a meaningful message: Every animal adds colour to our lives, and we must join hands to protect them from the dangers they encounter.

This week in Year 3, we have been getting into the festive spirit as we prepare for the upcoming Tết Holiday.
The students created lovely decorations in class and took great pride in their work. As part of our preparations, the children made Year of the Horse suncatchers, carefully designing and colouring them to bring brightness and positivity into their homes for the New Year.
It was wonderful to see the creativity, focus, and enthusiasm the students showed during this activity. We hope these suncatchers help make every Year 3 home shine as we welcome the New Year together.

Recently, Year 4 have been immersing themselves in the world of poetry across both English and Vietnamese lessons. They have worked collaboratively to create a wonderful range of poems, from verses capturing the lively spirit of Tết to charming and playful poems about familiar animals.
Beyond writing poetry, the children have also explored how to bring words to life. Mr Malcolm, Head of Primary, delivered an inspiring poetry performance, using expressive voice, gestures and movement to make each line vivid and engaging.
Don’t forget to register for thePrimary Poetry Performance 2026!

Year 5 students have been getting excited about the lead up to Tết, making Ông Thần Tài origami models to decorate our classrooms! The children were really careful and they came out brilliantly.

Year 6 students decorated the Tết corner by arranging traditional flowers and a fruit tray, creating Tết hanging decorations and explore how to cut the Chung cake with bamboo strips.

I hope that all students and their families have a wonderful time celebrating Tet. On behalf of the Secondary Team at BVIS, I would like to wish everyone a very happy and prosperous new year.

The Tết Assembly, themed “Reunion Tết” and celebrating the Year of the Horse (Bính Ngọ), was a great success and left a lasting impression on the BVIS Hanoi community. Through months of dedicated preparation, students not only shone on stage but also demonstrated the school’s core values of Enquiry, Perseverance, Caring, Integrity, Reflection and Respect. Parents, teachers and students thoroughly enjoyed and were truly impressed by the colourful, creative and confident performances delivered by the students.

This week, our Y8 and Y12 students showcased their cooking skills by making Banh Chung for those in need in the area, collaborating with the KD Elderly Club. Their eagerness to learn about Tet traditions while bonding with the elderly was truly heartwarming!

On Wednesday 28th January, the first of two Travel and Tourism trips was conducted in Ha Noi's Old Quarter. Expertly planned and well-run, the trip allowed 13 Year 12 students to experience Vietnam's culture and take in all the major sites. The trip started with a breakfast snack of sticky rice with all the trimmings and some iced drinks. The group moved onto a pre-booked open-top bus tour around Ha Noi that took in sites such as Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Temple of Literature and Hoan Kiem Lake. After the bus tour, students eagerly awaited lunch at a local Vietnamese restaurant. Lastly, students were taken to a boardgame cafe for games and a soft drink. Overall, the trip went superbly and was well-planned from start to finish. They are a credit to the course and the school.

On Monday 2nd, Year 10 Business students had the opportunity to see how an F&B business operated. They got to sample the lunch menu at Barbak, evaluate the layout of the restaurant and aestetics of design and meet the Head Chef and owner who shared their ideas/ thoughts of running a successful restaurant. A key takeaway was the staff's focus on tâm in how they should prepare and serve their food to ensure customer's go away very happy and share their experiences.

Leadership is a skill best honed through action, and this term our Year 10 and 12 students are rising to the challenge. As they work toward their BVIS Level 1 Sports Leadership award, they have transitioned from exploring leadership skills and techniques as active participants, to taking full command during a lesson. What began as short-burst activities has developed into independent session management; our aspiring leaders are now planning and executing 20/30-minute peer-led activities. By navigating the complexities of real-time delivery and metacognitive reflection, they are successfully bridging the gap between being participants and becoming leaders.
