On Thursday evening we hosted a Year 6 transition event that was also attended by some of our Year 5 students and families. Thank you to all those who attended and we hope you found it very useful.

As you know we take the safety and security of your children very seriously. On Monday and Thursday, the NAE Regional Safeguarding Director visited Hanoi to complete high level safeguarding training for a large number of staff at our two schools here in Hanoi.
This is the final call for anyone wishing to join the summer school program. We will be closing registration very soon, so please register as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

I wish you all a very relaxing weekend ahead.

This week in EYFS, children developed their imagination, language, and communication skills through stories, reading, and discussion. By sharing ideas, talking about characters, and exploring different texts together, the children built confidence in expressing themselves while developing a growing love of books and storytelling.

In Maths, Year 1 students became “fraction detectives” as they explored halves and quarters through practical activities and teamwork. By discussing their ideas and solving problems together, the children developed a deeper understanding of fractions while building confidence in explaining their mathematical thinking. Their enthusiasm and resilience were wonderful to see throughout the week.

In IPC, Year 2 students developed their map-reading and geographical skills by learning how to use grid references and keys. The children created their own pirate treasure maps, carefully adding symbols and coordinates to guide others to hidden treasure. The activity encouraged creativity, problem solving, and accurate use of map features.

In English, Year 3 students explored the “show not tell” technique and quickly developed confidence in using it to make their writing more descriptive and engaging. Their positive attitude towards learning and willingness to challenge themselves helped them apply this new skill successfully, resulting in thoughtful and imaginative pieces of writing.

In Year 4, students worked collaboratively to investigate how scientists measure earthquakes using different scales. Each group created an informative poster filled with facts and diagrams before confidently presenting their learning to the class. Through this activity, students strengthened their research, teamwork, and presentation skills while deepening their scientific understanding.

As part of their IPC “Being Human” topic, Year 5 students visited the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital (Linh Đàm Campus) for a hands-on learning experience. The children took part in CPR practice, learned about spinal care and nutrition, and experienced health check-ups led by medical professionals.
The visit developed students’ understanding of the human body while also encouraging curiosity, empathy, and an appreciation for healthcare careers. A huge thank you to Dr. Võ Văn Thanh and the hospital team for creating such an inspiring and memorable experience.

Year 6 students were delighted to receive letters from their Year 7 buddies as part of their transition to Secondary School. The thoughtful messages helped students feel excited and reassured about the next stage of their learning journey while beginning to build positive relationships with older students.

It was an exciting day for Year 10 as we visited the Vietnam Bear Rescue Center in Tam Dao! Students explored the unique bear habitats, harsh realities of bear bile farming and learned about the vital work of bear rescue. They have also learnt about the sanctuary's rescue efforts, providing hope for many bears in need. Inspired by their experience, our students are eager to take action! They can raise awareness about bear bile farming, support wildlife conservation initiatives, and advocate for stronger animal protection laws.

Students in Duke of Edinburgh ECA taster session focused on cooking with portable camping stoves. They worked in small groups to safely set up and light the stoves under supervision. The activity helped them develop teamwork, resilience, and basic outdoor cooking skills. Many students enjoyed preparing simple meals and learning how to manage limited equipment. Overall, the session gave them a practical and exciting introduction to the challenges of the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

In this new ECA students have a warm introduction to the club and a look at some iconic traditional costumes from different Vietnamese ethnic groups. They the progress to work in groups over a number of weeks to design their own traditional costumes. The final session will end with a fun showcase where students present their creations.

This week, we learned about bandwidth and how it affects the transfer of data between devices. Bandwidth is the amount of data that can be transferred in a certain amount of time - the higher the bandwidth, the more data that can be sent each second.
To help us understand this, we used the example of people moving through a corridor. A narrow corridor only allows a few people through at once, just like a low bandwidth connection transfers less data. When we widened the corridor, more people could move through at the same time, demonstrating how higher bandwidth allows more data to flow quickly and efficiently.
