At Collège Champittet, our secondary curriculum is divided into two stages:
Grades 9-10 (middle school): Students either follow our bilingual French-English pathway or the pre-International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) in English.
Grades 11-14 (high school): Students choose to study for either the anglophone IBDP, the francophone French Baccalaureate, or the bilingual Swiss Maturité.
All three of our high school diploma programmes are academically rigorous and rooted in Swiss standards of excellence. Our teaching approach encourages students to be inquisitive, develop a breadth of skills, and gain a global perspective.
We’re proud to be one of the leading secondary schools in Switzerland, offering a choice of three exceptional diploma programmes. Each pathway has its own unique features, and the decision to choose one pathway over another will depend entirely on your child’s academic interests, linguistic preferences, and future ambitions.
The two-year IBDP is an academically challenging, rewarding, and globally respected qualification, accepted by universities across the world. To successfully achieve the diploma, your child will study six subject groups and complete a core programme, which includes a Theory of Knowledge course, an Extended Essay, and Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) activities.
The French Baccalaureat is highly prized by the best French-speaking universities. Students study several core subjects, including history, geography, citizenship, modern languages, philosophy, and sport, as well as selecting options aligned with their strengths and aspirations. The French Bac demands a high level of spoken and written French.
Students work towards the Swiss Maturité from Grade 9 through to Grade 12. Subjects are split into two categories: a mix of humanities, sciences, and arts, alongside languages, maths, and two optional elements. A truly bilingual programme, the Swiss Maturité is a direct springboard to select Swiss universities.
Whichever diploma programme your child chooses, we’ll make sure they receive the guidance they need to map out their future. This includes help to apply for top universities in Switzerland and across the world, and expert career counselling from Grade 9.
In secondary school, our students follow a French-English bilingual programme. We also offer two German language tracks – standard and advanced – up until Grade 11 (Grade 14 for Swiss Maturité students). From Grade 9, students can choose to study Italian instead of German.
A high level of French is required to study for either the Swiss Maturité or French Baccalaureate, while a higher level of English is needed for the IBDP. Whichever programme they choose, we’ll encourage your child to further develop their language skills, either through our English as an Additional Language (EAL) or Français Langue Étrangère (FLE) programme.
Our FLE programme is specially designed to help students to become confident French communicators within a year. We also offer a one-year Cambridge English Foundation Year (CEFY) programme, which enables students to improve their English language skills so they can study for the IBDP.
Inspired by our world-class teachers and engaged in the very best international curricula, your child will enjoy an outstanding global education that’s steeped in Swiss traditions, heritage, and standards.
