Message from the Head of School - October 2022 Collège Champittet turns 120: This is what will happen in 2023 1

Dear Parents, Students, Colleagues, Alumni, Friends,

Founded in 1903, Collège Champittet will celebrate its 120th anniversary in 2023. This celebration is for everyone: students, parents, colleagues, alumni and friends of Champittet. During the year 2023, we will celebrate the values that unite us. Here is a first glimpse at the events planned, which will be confirmed in all details as they come along.

The past as a source of understanding of the present and the future

  • Key milestones in the history of the Collège will be revisited through texts in our newsletters. We will see how the school’s distinct DNA was formed and why Champittet has had from day one a vocation to train leaders (influencers as we would say today) to build a better world.
  • A photo exhibition will show us how the school evolved, despite two world wars, several economic crises, a pandemic and other challenges. The main tradition of the Collège is innovation and adaptation to societal change.
  • Graduation days (22 June 2023 for Nyon, and 23 June for Pully) will be devoted to revisiting the history and values of the school.

Opening up to the world through travels

Our community is distinguished by its curiosity about the world, its taste for exploration and discovery. A programme of exceptional trips will be proposed. Admittedly, this is slightly at odds with sustainable development, but these trips remain out of the ordinary. For each trip, if your children belong to the age group concerned, you will receive a special message.

  • Kilimanjaro expedition: climbing Africa's highest peak at an altitude of almost 6,000 metres with experienced guides. From 5 to 16 February 2023.
  • Scientific expedition to the Galapagos, "in the footsteps of Darwin", to reflect on the theory of the evolution of species. Planned for 15-30 October 2023.
  • Chaplaincy-led trip to Jerusalem, including visits to the holy sites of Christianity, Islam and Judaism. Week of 17 April 2023 (Easter holidays).
  • Cultural trip to Sicily and humanitarian trips to Madagascar and Thailand .

Champittet loves culture

An exceptional concert of the passion according to St. Matthew will take place in the cathedral of Lausanne in March 2023.

Champitteans remember the ones in need

The Foundation's ball will take place on Saturday 3 June 2023 at the Beau-Rivage Palace with the aim of beating the record and collecting CHF 120,000 in donations for charities in Madagascar, Thailand and Lebanon.

Mens sana in copore sano

The Collège sports team will add a special 120th dimension to all its activities: 20KM of Lausanne (29-30 April 2023), sports day (16 or 25 May 2023), ski camp (13-16 March for 7th to 11th grades). In addition, our colleagues are planning a 120km stand up paddle challenge (relay).

120 years of friendship

A big banquet will be organised on Saturday 30 September 2023. The alumni sports tournaments will take place on the same day.

Sustainable development

We will try to have our junior students plant 120 trees in the surroundings of Lausanne.

We are also spiritual beings

The Corpus Christi mass on 8 June 2023 will be celebrated by our bishop, Mgr Morerod.
