Forum for parents to share findings from external consultants on our DSE programme

Dear DCIS Parents and Guardians,

In the recent letter from Mr. Short, he outlined the findings from our visit by Jayne Bennion, NAE Director of Quality, and DSE consultant Jane Edgerton, who is an Executive Principal of four special schools in the UK. We were very pleased that their reports were positive and correlated well with internal assessment and other recent external visit reports.

In particular, the report from the DSE consultant highlighted that:

  • Quality of teaching is good
  • The curriculum is generally well matched to need
  • Practitioners have good knowledge and skills base to work with children with more complex needs
  • Commissioned therapists provide quality support for students
  • Children and parents enjoy being in the school and feel well supported

We will review our admissions procedure and we are revising the structure of the leadership of DSE so that staff and parents are clear of processes and responsibilities. We are also going to articulate the various pathways we offer at the school so parents and future parents can be clear of the route their child will take in the school and the qualifications this will lead to.

On Wednesday 21st June at 8.45am we would like to invite all parents of children who receive any additional support (Learning Support, Therapies and/or smaller DSE class placement) to attend a session where the DSE Team will feedback on the key findings and outline future plans for developing the DSE.

Please confirm your attendance by following this link.

Kind regards,

Alison Ford
