During yesterday's Parent Workshop our Deputy Head of Lower Primary, Mrs. Gray, showed how phonics and spelling is taught in Primary School at DCIS.

In the session we looked at the programme Read Write Inc. Starting off with the phonics aspect of the programme, we looked at the different sets of sounds and the order in which they are taught and how phonics provide children with the necessary skills to become confident readers and writers. Parents had the opportunity to take part in aspects of a Set 1 Sounds and Set 2 Sounds phonic lessons. After some interactive activities, parents looked at spelling and the ways in which we teach spelling so that children are able to retain the words.

It was wonderful to have so many parents in attendance.
