Secondary school students, staff and parents gathered to watch Dover Court’s first ever Secondary Mandarin Idol concert.

Year 7 to Year 12 Mandarin classes students have been putting the effort to prepare performances of popular Chinese songs on stage. It was a joy to watch. In addition, they also presented how the Chinese community celebrated the lunar new year and the celebrations that takes place in Chinatown and The Float @ Marina Bay. The student performances were very energetic and entertaining. Overall the assembly was planned and choreographed well by the students and the Mandarin Department staff.

Youth Chinese Test awards were also handed out, marking a great success for the students. This year more of our secondary students took the YCT Level 4 and 5 test and passed with flying colours. Dover Court is one of the first schools in South East Asia to introduce YCT Level 5 to the Mandarin curriculum.

The morning festivities were closed by a lion dance, bringing joy and spreading prosperity to last throughout the Chinese New Year. They started off by going into the Reception office bringing the whole school luck and prosperity continuing the parade into the school grounds where they danced in front of the students. The students came to school dressed in traditional Chinese clothes. It created a very lively atmosphere all around school.

Overall, everyone enjoyed the assembly and the performances by the lion dancers. This created a great start to the day and to the Chinese New Year.
