We are thrilled to share the incredible journey that the Duke of Edinburgh International Silver Award students experienced during their recent expedition to Kanchanaburi in Thailand. The 21 Dover Court International School students embarked on a seven day journey, brimming with challenges, learning opportunities, and unforgettable moments.

Throughout the expedition, the students exhibited remarkable independence, resilience, and teamwork as they navigated, camped, cooked, and paddled over 120km along the mesmerising River Kwai. Against the backdrop of majestic mountainous landscapes, ancient temples, and towering cliff faces, they encountered bathing elephants, graceful water snakes, playful monkeys, and a diverse array of birds and wildlife, transforming each day on the water into a thrilling adventure.

A highlight of the expedition was the monumental 44km paddle day, a true testament to the determination and endurance of our students, as they navigated a particularly fast and winding section of the river for over 6 hours in the unforgiving heat! Additionally, they had the privilege of waving at passengers aboard the iconic Death Railway bridge train as it passed by the campsite later that same night, adding an extra layer of excitement to the journey.

To celebrate the triumph of the successful expedition, all students were treated to a special congratulatory meal on the final evening, indulging in some well-deserved and delicious local Thai cuisine while reflecting on the significant milestones achieved during their adventure.

We are immensely proud of each and every participant for their unwavering dedication, courage, and positive attitudes displayed throughout the expedition. Not only did they push themselves physically and mentally, but they also forged lasting bonds with their peers and acquired invaluable life skills that will undoubtedly serve them well beyond this remarkable adventure.
