ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

BISB is more than a school – we’re a vibrant, caring community. Our welcoming and diverse international school is home to students and families from more than 40 countries.

We offer places all year round to children aged 2.5 to 18 years old. There are a few factors we take into consideration when you apply, which vary depending on your child’s age. After making an enquiry, taking a tour, and speaking to our friendly admissions team, you’ll fill in an online application form. If your child is in or entering Year 7 or above, they’ll do a short assessment.

Every family’s application process is different, so we’d encourage you to get in touch with our admissions team to find out how it’ll work for you. They can answer any questions about entry requirements and talk you through each stage.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Do you admit students throughout the year?
Your child can start at any time during the school year. Our teachers are used to settling students at short notice, and our personalised induction process quickly makes them feel at home.
  • Is there a waiting list?
We sometimes have a waiting list, yes. We recommend getting in touch with us as soon as possible to secure your child’s place.
  • What documents do I need to apply?

When you first apply, we’ll ask you to send us your completed online application form; a copy of your child’s passport; a copy of recent school reports; and SEN reports (if applicable).

Once your child’s place and start date are confirmed, you'll need to send us a signed education agreement, consent forms, responsibility for fees form, a copy of your child's health insurance, and vaccination confirmation (only for our Nursery, Reception and Year 1 children).

We will also need a reference form to be filled out by your child`s previous school. We will send the form directly to the contact person you will provide in the application form.

  • What ages do you teach?
We’re open to students aged 3-18.
  • What are your class sizes?
Our average class size is 20. This number is much smaller in our early years classes, with a teacher-student ratio of 1:8.
  • My child doesn’t speak English. Can they enrol at BISB?
Yes, we’re open to children who can’t speak English up to Year 6, and children with limited English up to Year 9. Our expert English as an Additional Language (EAL) teachers will make sure your child gets the support they need to become a proficient English speaker. Students joining us in Years 10-13 need a good level of English so they can follow the curricula we teach.
  • What curriculum do you teach?
Our students follow internationally recognised British and international curricula. We teach the English National Curriculum up to Year 9. In Years 10 and 11, we offer Cambridge IGCSE. And in Years 12 and 13 we teach the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).
  • Do you offer boarding facilities?
We don’t offer boarding facilities, but some of our older students live in a dormitory at the local high school, which is close to our campuses.
  • What after-school provision do you offer?
We can look after our nursery and reception children until 5:00 pm.

Primary and secondary students are encouraged to get involved in our after-school clubs and activities. They usually take place between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm, with some secondary clubs finishing at 5:00 pm.
  • Do you provide meals?
Yes, we prepare healthy snacks and tasty hot lunches every day.
  • Is there a bus service to and from the school?
Our school minibus service can collect your child from a home address in almost any area of Bratislava, up to 15km from the school. If you live more than 15km away, we can pick up your child for an extra charge.
