A group of students from Year 12 organised themselves into the ‘TEDxBISB Team’ and were responsible for the organisation of this event with the guidance of a member of staff. This was a long term commitment with the planning for the event starting last November.
It is a hugely successful example of High Performance Learning. The students faced many challenges as a group and individually in the organisation of the event and in their roles in its organisation. From the process of thinking creatively about the event through to the actual realisation of their ideas and the challenges along the way they have had many opportunities to reflect and learn from their experiences. They had to collaborate and work effectively together but also had to take individual responsibility to ensure there were concrete outcomes and the event was a success.
This was a genuinely real challenge and there was no margin for error, because the event had to run smoothly. It is a huge credit to the students who organised and participated in the event that it was a complete success. There were no technical problems, the set design was superb, the transitions between the speakers seamless and the recording of the event on video and still photography of a professional quality. Our two hosts created just the right atmosphere with their wit and grace and the dancers and speakers delivered exceptional performances they can be very proud of.
When one considers the skills, attitudes and attributes of a successful student we can see that through this experience all the students involved developed these through their engagement and commitment to the task. The TEDx team of 2014 have really raised the bar. We look forward to next year’s event and expect the students of 2015 to create another unique event.
Please go to the event website to see more photos of the 2014 TEDxBISB. The videos of the speakers and a highlights video will be available very soon.
