Cambiata trip

22 January 2016

On Friday 15th January the boys choir made their second journey to England to take part in Cambiata Northwest which is a large boys' choir with over 100 individuals from several countries.
Friday evening saw them leave school at 2pm to go to Bratislava airport where Mr Eastwood kept them entertained with juggling tricks whilst waiting for the plane.

After a short stop in Berlin we arrived in Manchester at 9pm, picked up our minibus and headed off to Blackburn.  This time we stayed with the Cambiata organiser Mrs Gill Fourie and she introduced us to her dog Tilly who made great friends with all the boys, especially if they were holding food.
Saturday saw a tremendous amount of singing with the boys working on the songs they had learned back in November.  This was greatly improved as we had been working on the same songs back in choir rehearsals in Bratislava and it was clear that the other schools had also done some hard work.  A highlight of the day was the rehearsal being taken by Christian Powesland a young man who left Cambiata last year and has now returned on the staff.  He conducted a specially arranged version of Daydream Believer which all the boys loved.
After rehearsals we headed off to the local bowling alley where Bohao and Tom were incredibly successful gaining very high scores.  Miss Howarth got beaten quite spectacularly by Mr Eastwood who gained an amazing 4 strikes in a row!
For dinner we then headed to a curry house and sampled a curry banquet with the boys sharing many different dishes and trying lots of new foods for the first time.
It had been snowing lightly all afternoon and there were shrieks of delight as we left the curry house and the snow was thick on the ground.  Once back at Gill's everyone wrapped up warm and headed out to play in the snow.  Two x 4 foot snowmen were made and everybody was happy running around pelting each other with snow.  Everyone slept really well on Saturday night.
On Sunday morning we headed back to the airport and this time flew directly to Vienna where we were met by Mr Kelly and the school minibus.  The boys told him all the tales of the snow and what a good time they had had.  We were all tired and content when we returned to school, we can't wait for the return trip in February!
