Make It Right Project

In 2015, students here at BISB challenged themselves to "Make It Right" as part of that years' Global Campus Challenge; to make a difference in their community.  Led by a group of secondary students in Enrichment, they devised a project to help refurbish and improve the children's play area in the Orthopedic Ward at Kramare Hospital.

The goal they set themselves was to raise 20,000 euros and the subsequent fund raising projects have involved the whole school. The student led events have included a sponsored run, toy collections and sales, mini businesses, the design and sale of Christmas cards, "Top Trump" style games on the UN Rights of the Child and t-shirts. Students organised art exhibitions, a LAN party and school sleepover, made a documentary on the work of the orthopedic ward with the help of professionals from JOI TV and participated in events that helped them understand the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.  Our final fund raising push came this year where - rather fittingly - our 20th Anniversary Ball helped us surpass our 20,000 euro goal!  Events - big and small - have formed part of our school calendar since the project launched.

After 2 years we are delighted to announce that we did "Make It Right". Our students have persisted and worked hard to achieve their ambitious goal, and the results of their work will benefit hundreds of children every year who are admitted into the orthopedic ward at Kramare hospital. When told we had reached our goal, former Global Campus Primary Student Leader (and now Secondary Year 7 student) Jan Palencar said "That's amazing, it finally happened! Money doesn't grow on trees - I'm happy we managed to do it. It was hard work but it was worth it!"
