The NCSS Challenge is a programming competition open to all school students and teachers. The Grok Learning website team, based in Australia, have been running coding competitions like the challenge for over 12 years.

The NCSS Challenge is unlike any other programming competition. During the competition, the tasks and the explanations leading to the challenges teach the students how to program as they go along, rather than expecting them to be an expert already. For a seasoned coder, the competition has something to offer too – the problems range from relatively simple to mind-bendingly hard.

Starting on Monday 15th February 2021 and running for about 5 weeks, notes and problems containing the information students needed to complete the week's programming challenges have been released.

10164 students from all around the world have participated in the Beginners' strand and our 14 Year 10 students have taken part as well. Czewon R., Dmitrii V., Hui-Yun L., Malena A., Sebastian K. and Yejun Y. have completed all their 40 programming tasks without losing a single point, closing the competition with a Perfect score. On the top of this, Czewon R. has also completed the intermediate strand of the competition, his skills and knowledge being challenged by complex programming tasks. He has competed along with another 4275 students and has achieved a Perfect score in this strand too.

At last, but not least, I would like to mention Peter B., a talented Year 7 programmer, who has joined the Beginners strand along with the Year 10 students and completed his competition with High Distinction, overtaking some of the older students by the significant number of points.

Congratulations to all these students for all their hard work, long time commitment and for their fantastic achievements too.
