I am a teacher of Secondary English with a degree in English and History from the University of South Wales. I have a PGCE in Secondary English from the University of Wales, College Swansea and a Post Graduate Diploma in Special Needs Education from the University of Birmingham.
I am passionate about both the teaching of English and supporting young people with a Learning Difficulty to achieve to their highest potential. I have taught English in a number of schools in South Wales where I taught the full spectrum of ability and I was a teacher for young people with severe learning difficulties in a special school in Cardiff for 7 years. I was also the Literacy Coordinator and I gained a lot of practical experience in this time and I feel confident in saying that I have dealt with the full spectrum of Learning Support throughout my career.
On a personal level I am a very keen traveller and I belong to a social running and walking group which has taken me all across Europe. I enjoy being active and in spite of a number of mobility issues over the last few years I maintain a keen interest in fitness. I run the school Brownie unit and I love being Brown Owl – a passion I brought with me from the UK. I love to cook, I enjoy reading and I am an enthusiastic member of a local quiz team.
I live with my Slovak partner and in my spare time I am learning Slovak – a huge challenge which has really given me a greater empathy with the students who arrive at BISB with very limited English.
