Principal for a day

Hello. My name is María José, I’m from Mexico. I am currently coursing the 13th year in Collège Champittet, with the International Baccalaureate programme. This is my first year here in the school and in Switzerland. Being new here has given me many experiences that I think I will always remember, and having had the opportunity of being “Principal for one day” has definitely been one of my favorite. Around the month of October, Mr. Sykes sent me and another classmate an email saying that we had been chosen to be the directeur and directrice for a day. I felt very happy and honored to be taken into consideration, especially since I am new to this school.

When we arrived, I was very nervous. My French is not that good and at the beginning of any conversation I tend to be very shy. Those thoughts definitely changed once we went into Mme Perbos-Parsons’ office. She welcomed us with a very nice smile and talked us through our programme for the day. Then we met M. de Korodi. He was very nice to us and full of energy and positivism. We walked around the school with him, we went to meetings with him and even had lunch with him. We also met M. Lomenech. He was very nice to us as well and I practiced my French a little bit with our conversations. At the end of the day, we had been practically living what the director experiences in the school for a Monday. I realised many things that happen without us even noticing them and that there is always something more to what we first see. It was a great experience that not only made me have a new friend, but that involved meeting a lot of nice people that showed us how teamwork is very effective.
