Nord Anglia Performing Arts Festival

Nord Anglia Performing Arts Festival

Fourteen talented students from Léman International School traveled to Shanghai to attend the first Nord Anglia Performing Arts Festival in the China Region. They were accompanied by our Performing Arts Director Ms. Cheryl V. Heyres and music teacher Ms. Silvia Zhang who worked diligently to train and prepare our students for success at the festival.

The students had a very hectic schedule that requires waking up as early as 6am so that they will be ready for the 8am sessions. Their schedule was comprised  of full orchestra rehearsals, various sectionals and workshops. The last session ended at 8pm so the students are very exhausted at the end of the day. In spite of that, our students demonstrated professionalism, enthusiasm and they were very caring to one another. The festival gave them the opportunity to grow as individuals, display empathy towards others and utilize leadership skills in the face of adversity.

Arriving in the festival prepared is essential and our students realized that they did a fantastic job making sure that they know their parts.  This was evident as they were given compliments by other teachers on how well prepared they were and how well they sounded.  This had a positive impact on students from other schools as our students were able to demonstrate the expectations of success at this festival.

The students played their music pieces confidently and beautifully but the most important thing is that the  students demonstrated mature behavior that inspired students, teachers, and the audience alike.  I firsthand saw and experienced how caring they are to each other, how they boost each other’s confidence and how well behaved they are. The students developed newfound relationships with each other that they will carry with them the rest of their lives.   I believe that this festival not only gave our students the opportunity to perform with a professional conductor but more so how to adapt to different situations, challenges, environments and people in a very kind and positive way.

Congratulations to Michele Vo, Bridget Deng, Christina Yu, Ho Yuan Chen, Johnny Mindorff, Jenna Song, Polly Peng, Kamen Ma, Lydia Lai, Patrick Yu, Adia Heyres-Semrau, Robin Li, Sheryl Zha, Toby Tang. You embody the qualities that Leman students should strive for and we are extremely proud of your accomplishments!
