We Want The Best Teachers - Iain Blaikie on our Recruitment Fair 2015

05 February 2015

We want to recruit the very best so we advertise internationally on the Nord Anglia University (NAU) Jobtrain site.

Across the 31 Nord Anglia schools over 10,000 applicants applied for teaching and adminstrative positions at an average of over 30 applicants per job. Almost all of the applicants are of an exceptionally high calibre, well qualified and internationally-minded people. Of course, we insist upon all of these attributes!

Personally, I have been very pleased that this academic year will see fewer teachers leaving Regents. It made for a much more manageable process and allowed us to spend longer interviewing prospective candidates over the four days in London.

So after a long flight we arrived in London, greeted by a typically freezing winter's day. The venue was the prestigious Park Royal Hotel in Kensington - It's important to make a good first impression!

After preparing handbooks, local guides and prospectuses we chatted with candidates and found that we are a very popular destination of choice. Regents International School Pattaya has an excellent reputation and our website and Facebook presence is well admired. We were also impressed to discover candidates have studied our external accreditation and inspection reports; a sign of a diligent applicant.

Garry Russell interviewed Secondary, Nonie Adams interviewed Primary and Early Years and I interviewed all kinds, but mostly posts of responsibility, such as Heads of Department and Heads of Year.

We looked for bright personalities with good resumes and articulate answers. We are always interested in individuals who like working with young people and whose academic track record is exceptional. What we ended up with was a plethora of fascinating candidates from all over the UK – some of which travelled miles to see us. Who could blame them; Regents is a school that has new challenges and sunshine in spades!

We are sure that we now have an excellent crop of teachers who are all excited about joining us this August. Of course, the recruitment stage is not quite over. Regents will also recruit from other schools in other countries, especially sister Nord Anglia schools.

The importance of a well-qualified and able staff can not be underestimated.

It is the key resource in any school.

It is our commitment to students and parents.

It is something that we continue to strive for year in, year out.

Iain Blaikie, Principal
