Grit and Determination Hallmarks of Young Lions

20 March 2017

Grit and determination are being demonstrated by our young Lions at the U13 Fobisia Games happening in Bangkok. PE Teacher, Mr Tom Hart reports.

Report from PE Teacher, Mr Tom Hart:

It has been another scorching day here in Bangkok with temperatures into the high thirties pitch/court side. It has been a day of sporting highs and lows for our young lions.

The boys looked comfortable in the basketball competition scoring freely and playing some lovely basketball. It all came down to the last game for silver and bronze, a game the boys narrowly lost by 1 point finishing in bronze position. It was a similar situation for the girls who were playing for 3rd/4th or 5th in their final game and needed a win to secure a medal. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, the girls lost 1-0 to NLCS who took the bronze, with the girls finishing in 5th place. In the javelin competition Dima Shilkov (silver boys A) and Seojin Moon (bronze boys B) added two more medals to the athletics tally bringing the total medal haul to 51 with one day to go.

A difficult day for the team, but they worked tirelessly and showed immense grit and determination, never giving up even in the face of adversity and exhibiting true Lions spirit. We are very proud of our young Lions and they deserve their rest this evening.

Tomorrow the boys will be competing in football and the girls in basketball with the competitions both starting at 9.00am and finishing at 15:30. It's then back to the hotel for the gala dinner at 18:45.

The team have been a credit to the school throughout the first two days and have pushed themselves exceptionally hard. A big thank you to all those who came to support the team today, at times it was like having an extra player.

Come on day 3! GO LIONS!
