In 2019 Regents students will have the opportunity to participate in 2 Round Square International Service Projects, Morocco (July 2019) and Borneo (December 2019). These are a way for students to develop an understanding of the types of problems faced by communities around the world through hands-on experience.

Participation in a Round Square International Service Projects is a great way for students to develop an understanding of the types of problems faced by communities around the world through a hands-on experience. RSIS project participants work in a truly international team, developing skills and attitudes for leadership, global citizenship and community engagement. Packed with challenging adventure and cultural awareness opportunities, the project programmes are designed to ensure that students have an exciting, experiential and holistic learning experience.

There are two options for RSIS projects for Regents students:

RSIS Big Build Morocco

Dates: 6th – 19th July 2019

Price: Participation fee GBP 970 (THB 42,000) plus flights

Location: Tacheddirt and Ait Souka, Morocco

Students will help construct a building consisting of two rooms where lessons can take place for the women and the children of the village who cannot or have not attended school. Students will also help put a permanent pathway in from the mountain road to Tacheddirt village.

Aside from the project work, students will experience the diverse culture of the Berber people and their way of life, explore the bustling streets and beautiful gardens of Marrakesh and visit the ancient fortified village of Aït Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the location of many big-budget Hollywood movies.

RSIS Big Build Borneo

Dates: 7th – 20th December 2019

Price: Participation fee GBP 990 (THB 43,000) plus flights

Location: Tambunan,  Malaysian Borneo

Character Development

Participants will take it in turns to be student leaders during the project, taking responsibility for the organisation of the day, briefing their peers, giving an overview of safety and risk management and organising a student rota to help with different chores at camp. Students will be given feedback by their peers and the adult leaders, and will all receive a personal report after the trip.

All participants will:

  • Have the opportunity to lead a truly international team;
  • Deepen their spirit of adventure;
  • Develop their problem solving, presentation, facilitating and communication skills;
  • Grow in self-confidence, personal responsibility and self-awareness; and
  • Test and hone their management and negotiation skills.

Big Build Projects are the perfect opportunity for Schools to provide targeted leadership training for potential future leaders including your next Head Boy or Girl, or students with other areas of responsibility in their school (eg sports captain, school prefect, committee chair.)

If you are interested to join either of the 2019 builds please email Mr. Patrick McKenna: Patrick.McKenna@regents-pattaya.co.th
