Empowering our students to be world-changers is something central to every Nord Anglia Education school. We encourage them to share their thoughts on pressing global issues and to be ambitious about their role in making our world a better place through global-mindedness and active leadership.

This is why our schools join regional Model United Nation (MUN) events, such as the regional MUN with schools across Europe and the Middle East on 8 and 9 February. At this two-day regional event hosted at La Côte International School (LCIS) in Aubonne Switzerland, NAE students ages 11 to 14 took on the role of delegates from participating countries in the actual United Nations.

The delegates joined committees, workshops, team-building activities, and specialised sessions to address specific issues. After reading position papers and debating amongst each other, the delegates drafted, submitted and voted upon resolutions. Students were also able to visit the UN Headquarters in Geneva thanks to the school’s nearby location.

“At Nord Anglia Education, we empower our students to positively impact their individual communities and the world at large,” said Nord Anglia Education CEO Andrew Fitzmaurice.

“At BST we are extremely proud of our continuing links to charitable organisations. Our most recent contribution was the provision of medicine and gifts to a Leukemia hospital in Tashkent. We are always ensuring student awareness of the commitment to helping others ,” Mr. Macaulay, Principal of The British School of Tashkent said.  

There were four committees, which discussed: education, illness and disability; inequality, poverty, waste and sustainably; disputes over the South China seas and water disputes in Africa; and denuclearisation in North Korea and the arms market.

The NAE Model United Nations conference at LCIS provides an invaluable introduction to the world of MUN, especially for those students without any previous experience, and is led by experienced staff members alongside students who have joined MUN before.
