Teaching Vietnamese as the Mother tongue language at BIS Hanoi

Vietnamese as the native mother tongue language is being taught at British International School from primary to secondary school. Starting from the academic year 2016, Vietnamese has become one of the six subjects in the International Baccalaureate programme.

We are greatly proud to see that Vietnamese has been chosen by so many students for the International Baccalaureate programme. In addition, some students have chosen to write their extended essay (a required important part of the Baccalaureate programme) in the Vietnamese language.

From primary to secondary school, the Vietnamese programme focuses on the fundamental values of literature, culture and the history of the nation. From this programme, students learn not only the valuable native literary works but also shall be connected with the historical, cultural and social contexts of the country in every period. This programme is referred to as Vietnamese Studies.

Going along with the advanced teaching methods, as other disciplines being taught in this school, our target is to inspire students through different creative activities.  To build up in them desirable characteristics such as inquiry, knowledge, thinking skills, principles, open- mindedness, risk- taking that will enable them to be balanced,  caring and reflective. These are the aims of the IB programme.  

British International School Hanoi students of today will be the global citizens of tomorrow who have the rustic soul of the Vietnamese people, who are closely connected to their families and their homeland no matter where they are in the world.
