Whilst invigilating one of the exams, I was reflecting on how far we have come in three years. I am proud to witness how some of the students who had very little English when they joined us, are now confidently sitting in an exam room answering questions with a good understanding of what is being expected. Teachers have really supported the students in making sure that our students' knowledge in their subject is good, but also that they have good English and are competent in their specialist language. Most of our staff have been trained to be able to teach second language learners. They have taken a 9 week course that is recognized worldwide and for which Ms Murray-Smith is an officially trained course deliverer. I consider that all our teachers are language teachers, as well as specialist content teachers. I am very much looking forward to the results in the summer, as over the year I have watched our Year 11 students become mature independent learners who want to achieve! The goal at BVIS is to prepare them for the best universities in the world. I am confident that we will see that happening.
