Mr Mark Sayer Weekly Update 3/6/2016

03 June 2016

JK. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter books, recently shared the rejection letters she received when she submitted “The Cuckoo’s Calling” under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.

One of the letters even advised that she take a writing course! The reason for her publishing these letters was not to embarrass the publishing companies but to rather inspire people to pursue their dreams in the face of adversity.

The reason for bringing this to your attention is that rejection and failure happens to even the most successful of people. A recurring theme throughout our Speakers’ Corner parental seminars is that children should be allowed to experiment and not be afraid to make “mistakes”. What is important is that children are able to reflect on their mistakes and understand what they got wrong. At BVIS we are always encouraging our students to experiment and take risks whilst also providing them with the skills to identify how they can learn from their mistakes.

At BVIS we also encourage our students to pursue their dreams and not be discouraged when they encounter an obstacle. “Be Ambitious” is a core principle of the school and we firmly believe that the leadership values, skills and knowledge we teach at the school ensures that that there is no limit to what our students can achieve.
