Welcome back. I hope that you all had a wonderful couple of weeks to enjoy family time together over the break. It is certainly good to hear the corridors filled again with the sounds of busy children and see their excitement at being back in class with friends, engaged in their work.
Over the holiday, we were able to enjoy some outstanding professional development on ‘Talk for Writing’ delivered by the Primary Literacy consultant, Carol Satterthwaite (http://www.carolsatterthwaite.com/about.html). She provided a two day workshop for all of the Primary teachers and Teaching Assistants from both BVIS and BIS schools. Not only was her presentation and assistance of educational valuable, enabling our staff to upskill their delivery of Literacy, it also created an opportunity for the staff from our two schools to collaborate. I have included a couple of links on ‘Talk for Writing’ for interest. http://talk4writing.fatcow.com/index.html, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ej-UHjxmHC8
On the point of engagement, our Student Ambassadors met me this week to finalise their ideas on how to improve the dining room experience for us all. They held several meetings last term to develop a behavior framework and the meeting this week was to discuss how this information would be presented to the school during our Friday morning assembly. They wish to have more responsibility in school and so they will be assisting staff in the dining room by awarding Class Dojo points to students modelling good behavior. We are all excited to see the impact of their initiatives and witness their personal growth as they accept their new responsibilities.
From the Class Dojo posts, you will get a feel for the high level of activity in the classes this week. Please take time to explore the site and gain information about the learning objectives being covered this term.
We wish you a restful weekend.
