Taking examinations in the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is a hard challenge even for native English-speaking students. Therefore, many people are amazed by the IGCSE results of some of our students at British Vietnamese International School, Hanoi (BVIS Hanoi), whose results all range from A to A*.

IGCSE is the most prestigious and popular certificate for Secondary students (14 to 16 years old) around the world. Achieving IGCSE certificate broadens opportunities for students to pursue their studies at world leading international schools and universities. At the end of the IGCSE course at international secondary school, students will take exams organized by Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE). We feature some outstanding students who have successfully achieves exceptional high results in the latest IGCSE examinations:

Nam Hoseong

Year 12V, British Vietnamese International School, Hanoi (BVIS Hanoi)

11 IGCSE subjects achieving 9A* and 2As

As a Korean student at BVIS Hanoi, Hoseong has become familiar with both Vietnamese culture and international learning styles. However, the diversity of cultures at school gives Hoseong more inspiration than pressure.  Taking part in 11 subjects in IGCSE program and getting 9A*s and 2As has come, he said, as a ‘shock’ and is a huge achievement for anyone experiencing the challenges of this academic program.

To get these grades, it is not only the engagement in school lessons but also in all other activities such as Drama, reading and debating. School clubs are where Hoseong has discovered his full potential. He shared, ‘The skills gained in Drama give me confidence when speaking in public, and reading sessions in the library deeply enriches my vocabulary’. In 2018, HoSeong also represented BVIS attending the high-level conference for students at the United Nations (New York City, USA) participating in the UNICEF collaboration with Nord Anglia Education.

Kim YeonOo

Kim Yeon Oo

Year 12V, British Vietnamese International School, Hanoi (BVIS Hanoi)

Achieving all A* grades in her 9 IGCSE subjects

Kim YeonOo made a mark on the IGCSE with A* grade for all 9 subjects she was entered for. She shared, ‘What I cherish most in this journey is the consistency with the set goals and the inspiration that the teachers have given me, which help me explore more of my potential. Teachers are not only care about our academic achievement but also our feelings and mental health when we come in classes.’

Sharing the secret for studying, YeonOo said that she focused on briefly noting the useful information during lessons and questions that she could not find the answer on an A4 sheet of paper. These notes help her to revise knowledge in an active way without missing any essential information. YeonOo extends her knowledge by registering for online courses to supplement knowledge for social subjects such as Humanities, Ethics, Philosophy, etc.

Nguyen Ngoc Ha Uyen

Nguyen Ngoc Ha Nguyen

Year 12V, British Vietnamese International School, Hanoi (BVIS Hanoi)

Achieving A* and A grades in all 7 of her IGCSE subjects

Last year was the most memorable year for Ha Nguyen. Not only did she pass the IGCSE exam with outstanding achievements, Ha Nguyen (and Kim YeonOo) also represented the British Vietnamese International School, Hanoi to participate in the high-level conference for students organised by UNICEF last July.

‘Eliminating the competitive mentality is important for reducing pressures which arose in the learning and testing process. That's what I learned during my time at school and through my recent trip to UNICEF’, shared Ha Nguyen. “At first, I spent a lot of time worrying about how I would express myself. But on the trip, I realized that for youngsters, achieving good results is not the only aspect of importance. What is more important are awareness of surrounding issues, the ability to connect with people and also to share and acquire knowledge with a broader perspective.’

The IGCSE program is currently taught in 140 countries and in more than 3,700 schools, including 1,300 schools in the United Kingdom. With its training standards are internationally recognised, more and more schools are now choosing IGCSE program for education around the world.
