Our secondary school curriculum
At the British Vietnamese International School Hanoi, our 11 to 16-year-olds follow the National Curriculum for England, which culminates in their IGCSE exams at 16.
Split into two closely linked phases – Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 – our secondary school curriculum provides an exceptional all-round education in Vietnam, which prepares our students for the challenge of A-levels.
Key Stage 3
Our Key Stage 3 curriculum supports our students through the transition from primary to secondary school. At this critical stage in their education, specialist subjects embed a deeper knowledge and understanding, developing the skills they need to succeed in their IGCSEs.
All our subjects are taught by expert teachers who encourage our students to learn independently, think critically, and solve complex problems. As well as studying English, maths and science, your child will deepen their knowledge in geography, history, art and design, digital citizenship, PE, music, and drama.
In secondary, we teach Vietnamese at three proficiency levels. Your child will also follow a structured programme of personal, social, health and economic education (PSHE), which will play an important part in their holistic growth.
IGCSEs
At Key Stage 4, your child will study for their IGCSE exams. IGCSEs are the world’s most popular international qualification for 14 to 16-year-olds and are taught in almost 4,000 schools worldwide.
At the British Vietnamese International School Hanoi, each student follows a tailored curriculum based on their academic strengths and interests, as well as their aspirations for the future. Your child will typically study seven or eight subjects, including compulsory maths, English, and science.
Studying a broad range of subjects enriches our students’ knowledge and cultural understanding, and keeps their options open for the future. During Key Stage 3, we’ll support your child to choose what they want to study at IGCSE.
Our IGCSE exams are assessed the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE).
Learning beyond the classroom
Outside of the curriculum, our students take part in a variety of activities that complement their academic studies. These include life-changing trips, as well as creative, sporting, social, and service opportunities.
