As coach, I was unfortunately out of the country and the team was left in the trusty hands of student coach Jeano. Jeano and I had worked on tactics as part of his MYP Personal Project in Grade 10 so this was a perfect opportunity for him to lead a team, which he did with aplomb.

Our Boys, who were in the U19 category, started the day with a loss in the first game of pool play. The boys, with Jeano and Richard (captain) spent time talking as a team and analyzing what they needed to do to win moving forward.

This growth mindset by looking at learning from failure in the first game, really set them up for the rest of the tournament. This dedication paid off as the boys played well enough in their next three games to progress to the final.

The final game was close and very defensive ending 1-1. In the penalty shoot out our boys goalkeeper, Cameron, was able to stop an early shot and our penalty takers were able to finish the job successfully!

Many thanks to our Athletics Director, Emma Sparrow, who was there to look after the boys and sent me the match report details which have been used in this news post.
