An important part of the IBO’s mission statement lays out its focus on developing students to become lifelong learners. This focus on encouraging learning beyond the school years is mirrored in the expectation we have for our teachers at Northbridge International School Cambodia to model this commitment to engaging in professional learning.

At Northbridge, we are committed to creating an environment where innovative and thoughtful teaching practice is the norm. To support teachers in providing this for our students, we have a variety of learning opportunities available to all.

Last week we had some IB workshop leaders visit the school to lead two PYP workshops for our teachers.

One of the workshops focused on how we can support the development of the PYP Approaches to Learning (the skills needed to successfully lead your own learning) in the classroom. The other workshop focused on symbolic learning in the Early Years with a particular focus on language, literacy and math learning in young children.

The workshops were highly engaging and challenging and teachers left with a deeper understanding of how to support our particular group of students.

Professional learning at Northbridge isn’t only offered through workshops but through many different channels. As a Nord Anglia school, our teachers have access to a multitude of online modules through the Nord Anglia University which is an online learning platform offering courses linked to teaching, learning and professional workplace skills.

On Monday mornings, teachers engage in our Monday Morning Builder sessions which focus on teaching strategies that support the particular needs of our students.

In the last few months, we have had sessions on EAL needs, Maths instruction, teaching literacy, and a session with a visiting speech therapist who spoke on the needs of dyslexic learners.

We know from research that it is the collective efficacy of teachers that has the greatest impact on learning (see link), which is why as a school we are fully committed to the ongoing development of our teachers so that your children really do receive an outstanding world-class education.
