Promoting balanced technology use at Northbridge As an IB school, Northbridge International School Cambodia aims to develop the ten attributes of the Learner Profile in everyone. One of the ten is 'Balanced', which states: 'We understand the importance of balancing different aspects of our lives - intellectual, physical, and emotional - to achieve well-being for ourselves and others. We recognise our interdependence with other people and the world in which we live.'

One of the ten is 'Balanced', which states: 'We understand the importance of balancing different aspects of our lives - intellectual, physical, and emotional - to achieve well-being for ourselves and others. We recognise our interdependence with other people and the world in which we live.'

An important aspect of being balanced in which many young people need support and guidance is in technology usage.

For this reason, we wanted to share with you some resources that will help you and your family to manage screen time and also provide meaningful resources while using technology.

Ensuring our young people are balanced in their leisure time can be a challenge in the school holidays. Therefore we encourage you to:

  • Not use screens right before bed (it is best to have a No Screens in Bedrooms rule).

  • Make time for reading and enjoying media together.

  • Monitor what your child is doing on technology (check the browser history).

  • Model appropriate screen time behaviour (your children are watching you).

  • Choose good content for your child when they are using devices.

Did you know that many of the platforms used by our children are actually age restricted?

  • Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest - 13 years and older

  • Fortnite - 12 years and older

  • Youtube - 18 years to have own account / 13 years with parental approval.

To support you in making choices with your child, here is a list of Recommended apps and a Website to support phonics for when your child is allowed screen time.

School subscriptions you can also access in the holidays (your child has the passwords):

Brittanica Online

Brainpop

PebbleGo
