This December, the Nord Anglia International School of New York (NAISNY) choir had the privilege of performing at the annual Christmas celebration hosted by the St. George’s Society at St. Thomas Church in New York City. It was an afternoon filled with warmth, music, and meaningful connections, creating an experience that truly reflects our commitment to fostering respect, compassion, and community engagement
In preparation for this special event, our students created beautiful handmade greeting cards, each one crafted with care and thoughtfulness. During the celebration, the choir not only shared their joy of singing but also personally handed these cards to senior guests, along with small gifts. After their performance, students mingled with attendees, spreading holiday cheer and engaging in heartfelt conversations.
For many of the seniors, this gathering is something they look forward to this cherished tradition that brings joy and companionship for months. Seeing our students interact with dignity and empathy, and witnessing the smiles as music filled the room, was a powerful reminder of the impact of kindness and shared experiences
Our students shared their reflections on this memorable day:
Ethan: “I really liked how happy I could see the singing made the guests, and I also liked meeting them in person when giving the gifts.”
Eliot: “I liked seeing how happy everyone was when we sang, and I took a few pictures with the people I gave cards and gifts to.”
Elizabeth: “I felt really good singing and seeing how much they enjoyed it, and I also liked giving out the cards to the individual guests.”At NAISNY, we believe education extends beyond the classroom.
Through initiatives like this, we nurture values of respect, thoughtfulness, and community, helping students understand the importance of giving back and connecting with others. These moments embody our integrated habits and our vision of shaping creative, resilient global citizens who make the world a better place.
This event was not just memorable for the St. George’s Society members, it was equally meaningful for our students. They experienced firsthand how music can unite people across ages, and how small acts of kindness can create meaningful memories. It’s one of many community engagements we proudly support, reinforcing our belief that learning is very powerful when it inspires action and compassion.
