IB Core Induction Trip: Learning, Connection and Community in Morocco

Year 12 students recently embarked on a memorable IB Core Induction Trip to Morocco, where intercultural learning, community engagement and personal growth came together in a truly meaningful experience.
During their time in Morocco, students explored the vibrant Medina of Marrakech, discovering its rich cultural heritage, bustling streets and unique atmosphere. They also travelled high into the mountains to the village of Matate, where they took part in irrigation maintenance alongside local residents and exchanged cultural mementos with their local trip leaders and members of the community.

These shared experiences offered students a valuable opportunity to connect with people from different backgrounds, learn about local traditions and contribute to community-led initiatives. Beyond the practical activities, the trip encouraged students to reflect on their own perspectives, challenge assumptions and consider the importance of approaching community engagement with openness, respect and a willingness to learn.
Daily reflection sessions provided time for students to discuss their experiences, explore the lessons they had learned and consider how these might shape their understanding of global citizenship. The trip highlighted an important principle: meaningful community engagement is not simply about giving back, but about building reciprocal relationships in which everyone has something to share and learn.

For our Year 12 students, the journey was an opportunity to grow not only as individuals, but also as members of an increasingly interconnected global community. The friendships, conversations and shared moments experienced along the way will hopefully continue to influence their perspectives long after returning home.
We enjoyed hearing first-hand about the students’ experiences and reflections when they shared their stories with us during the recent Secondary Assembly. Thank you to the IB teachers who accompanied Year 12 students on this trip, Ms Lavesini, Mr Hubbard and Mr Gracie.
