More than 1,000 Nord Anglia students from across the US and Latin America gathered at Windermere Preparatory School to compete and build new friendships for the Global Games 2017. Here are all the highlights from the games in case you missed the action.
The 2017 Global Games held November 28 - December 1, brought together more than a 1,000 students, chaperones, and staff from all 12 Nord Anglia schools across the US and Latin America for a 3-day Olympic-style sporting event. The games take place each year at Windermere Preparatory School, in sunny Orlando, Florida, and are one of Nord Anglia’s Global Campus activities.
Led by a traditional Scottish bag piper, students held their opening ceremony by parading their respective school banners around the track. Grade school children circled the route with flags and cheers for the athletes. Immediately following the conclusion of the parade, the children scurried off to begin competition.
Athletes participated in both team and individual competitions that included flag football, soccer, tennis swimming, track, sand and hard court volleyball, archery, and basketball. There were more than 840 different competitions and participants were welcome to compete in any sport they chose, no matter their level of expertise. In between games, students cheered their classmates around campus or hung out with friends in the Olympic Village while enjoying food, games, and shade from the Florida sun.
In the evenings, students reveled in a variety of local theme parks and restaurants visiting Planet Hollywood in Disney Springs for sing-alongs and shopping. Students spent the second evening at Dave and Busters dining on pizza, hamburgers, and playing arcade games with fellow Nord Anglia students. To cap off a wonderful week, the children celebrated sportsmanship, team work and the winners of the Global Games at an awards ceremony with entertainment by a local rap group, before heading to Universal Studios for an afternoon of fun on such rides as Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts.
Congratulations to all the schools for another successful Global Games! In case you missed the action, visit our Global Games social hub to see all the highlights.
