Welcome to the first monthly update from the Parent Council, which summarizes the discussions from the latest meeting, and important future events to watch out for.

Family BBQ on Friday 7 September

The first event (NISC Family BBQ) of the new school year will be held this Friday from 3:30 to 5:30pm, and is open to everybody, giving a chance for all families to gather and have fun together.

There will be various games and activities set up by the STUCO (Student Council) teams, and food and drink available to buy. Parents are also welcome to bring their own food to share if they like. To specially welcome the new families that have joined NISC this year, the school will give free food and drink vouchers - new parents, please collect yours from Reception.

The school always looks for opportunities to interact with parents, so those who are keen to help the STUCO teams please contact Mr Craig before 2.30pm on this Friday (craig.ziegler@nisc.edu.kh)

We welcome all of you to come and have fun with us!

New Events and Public Relations Manager

Our school has hired an Events and PR Manager, Ms Nel, who will be coordinating all future school events, after she starts next week. She will be coordinating the Culture Day activities with parents in the coming months. Parents who are interested in being involved in the performances or hosting food stalls to represent their countries, you are welcome to contact Ms Nel from next week: oudomrath.pen@nisc.edu.kh

Meet Your Class Parent Representatives (Class Reps)

The school will be giving Natashia the list of Parents Class Reps. If you are interested in interacting with your Class Rep, please contact Natashia to get their contact details.

Getting to know each other

A lot of Primary parents are interested in knowing other parents from the same class, therefore the Parent Council suggests the school arrange class plays or other activities that invite parents to join in, so that parents have the chance to meet each other.

The school would also like to remind parents that they are allowed to pick up their kids at the class door by 3pm, a time which gives parents the chance to get to know other parents.

English Language Club for parents

Some parents suggest school organize an English Language Club for parents who are keen to improve their English, learning from one of the school's EL teachers or another Native English Speaker. Please advise Natashia if you are interested in this club, and the school will consider how it can provide support.

Transition from Primary to Secondary

Some parents have found the transition from Primary to Secondary not smooth, so the Parent Council has suggested the school organize workshops for parents to learn more about the differences between the Primary and Secondary curriculum.

How to manage Managebac?

Many parents are not sure how Managebac can assist parents to learn more about their children’s study. The Parent Council has suggested the school arrange training for parents.

Food improvement in the Cafeteria

The Parent Council is very satisfied with the food improvement in the school cafeteria, but still hopes the caterers will lower the price and maintain the food quality. Some parents hope they can introduce brown instead of white rice for better nutrition. The school has put feedback boxes in the Cafeteria and you are welcome to give feedback by filling in the provided forms.

1st Parent Coffee Morning announced

The 1st Parent Coffee Morning will be on Thursday 27 September at 8am in the Hub Boardroom (upstairs from Cafe Blends). The school will arrange complimentary food from the Cafeteria for parents to try at the end of the session. Please do join us!
