Empowering Voices: The evolving role of Head Students at Northbridge

At Northbridge International School Cambodia here in Phnom Penh, our Head Students, who also act as the Presidents of the Student Council (STUCO), hold significant responsibilities that directly impact our school life. They represent both the students and the school at various events and lead STUCO, acting as the face of the school and as the crucial link between the student body and the school's leadership team.

The selection of our Naga Head Students is a rigorous process. Interested students from grade 10 undergo a formal application process, and a shortlist of four candidates is created. These candidates then embark on a challenging journey that includes a campaign week, speeches in the general assembly, student voting, and personal interviews with a selection committee. Each step is meticulously assessed to ensure the best two candidates are chosen.

For the 2023-2024 academic year, our Head Students, Remy and Adrijaa (see photo above), have excelled in their roles. They have demonstrated exceptional leadership skills in organizing key events such as the Winter Formal, Spirit Week, the Halloween Haunted House, Christmas candy canes, Valentine's cards, and more. More importantly, they have strengthened the communication bridge between students and the school administration. Thanks to their dedication, student voices have been heard on various issues, from facilities to school’s processes.

Looking ahead to the 2024-2025 academic year, Julie and Pei Pey have been selected as the new Head Students. They have already taken on their roles with great seriousness and commitment. Their primary goals are to amplify the student voice and establish a coordinated support system among all school leaders. I am excited to see the positive changes these strong leaders will bring to our school.

Northbridge's Head Students continue to play an increasingly vital role each year, enhancing the school's environment and ensuring student perspectives are integral to our community's development.
