International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) Class of 2017 Results

After an anxious wait of almost 7 weeks, our International Baccalaureate Diploma and Certificate students have received their, in many cases, life-changing results. As a whole school community, we would like to congratulate all of our Year 13 students on their outstanding IB Diploma scores. A benchmark of the high level of success is our school average points score of 32 which is significantly above the world average of 30 and the highest in our IB Diploma history, thereby placing BIS Abu Dhabi alongside the leading international schools (selective and inclusive) worldwide.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) Class of 2017 Results Congratulations Class of 2017

Our Diploma pass rate of 97% is also significantly above the world pass rate of 79% which is highly indicative of the individual level of care taken in ensuring that our students are nurtured and guided through the Diploma course throughout their 2 years with us. The inspiring individual scores of the students will allow them to take up places at some of the top universities in the world.

As a reminder, each student undertaking the IB Diploma studies 6 subjects- 3 at Higher Level and 3 at Standard Level. Students can be awarded a maximum of 7 per subject with an extra 3 ‘bonus’ points available for a combination of their Extended Essay and TOK (Theory of Knowledge) giving a total possible maximum score of 45 points (achieved by the top 0.34% of students worldwide).

Our highest achieving student, Tanya Mathur, scored 42 points which places her in the top 4% of diploma candidates worldwide! A truly remarkable achievement which will offer Tanya a wide range of opportunities in terms of university choices.  She was closely followed by Absarina Azizan who achieved 40 points, placing her in the top 9% of the world’s IBDP students.

Tanya and Absarina will now be able to choose degree courses from a wide range of Universities, as will their classmates. The students have secured offers from some of the top universities in the world including the following*:

  • University College London - 7th
  • Warwick University - 8th
  • Lancaster University - 9th
  • University of East Anglia -12th
  • Birmingham University -16th

*(figures indicate each university’s position in The Independent Complete UK University Guide 2018)

The achievements and successes of our students in this year’s IBDP results are testament to their hard work, determination and stamina coupled with the knowledge, understanding and resolve of our teaching staff in having the highest of expectations of their classes. The teachers’ nurturing of the students’ skills and abilities alongside guiding them to believe in themselves are cornerstones of our Secondary School. Needless to say, we are so very proud of them all and look forward with anticipation of their individual success stories in the future. They were truly ambitious, exceeded our expectations and we wish them all the very best as they take the next steps in their education and careers.
