Our Marlins swim team swam their hearts out over the weekend at the annual FOBISIA Swim Championships. The football season really kicks off and our ECA programme launches an incredible range of different sports for our Primary children. Read on for all the details.

All the children are back enjoying their PE lessons and learning a new sport. This week our Sports after school programme starts again with many more opportunities for our children to get involved in different sports from athletics and badminton to rock climbing and touch rugby. We have had an amazing response to touch rugby with over 50 children from Years 3-6 getting involved in our touch rugby ECA on Thursdays. If you would like your child to be involved in any of these activities please let Mr Damon know.

This weekend our swimmers were in action at the FOBISIA Swim Championship.  Please read below to find out how our swimmers got on.

Next weekend we have one of our big football tournaments with over 130 children representing St Andrews International School Bangkok from both the Primary and High School. From Primary we are taking 7 teams with over 70 children. Our teams will face schools from across Asia similar to the Phuket Tournament we had in November. Best of luck to all our STA teams.

Please remember that all sports squads start back this week from Monday 14 January.

Football

After the success at the BISP Soccer 7s in Phuket, our Primary teams have a busy schedule ahead. For our Blaze teams we have the TISAC season which will involve league games and also a tournament. This is a great opportunity for all the children in our football squads to represent St Andrews International School Bangkok again.

In January we have the Harrow International Tournament that falls on the same weekend as FOBISIA for gymnastics, so some girls will have a tough job deciding which they would like to do. For this tournament we would like to take two U9 boys/girls teams and then our U11 boys Flames and Blaze/girls Flames. This would mean over 70 children from Primary representing STA.

In February we have the BISAC end of season football tournament where we will take our U11 Flames teams.  Plus there is a BISAC festival for children that do not make the Flames team.

In March we have the new NAE football tournament (only for U11) in Vietnam. At this current time the tournament hasn’t got a great intake of teams who can take part. For this reason we may have to wait until the tournament grows before entering. I will know more by the end of January.

Also, in March we have the Patana U9 tournament where we hope to take both U9 girls teams and 2 or 3 boys teams. So much on offer for our children who enjoy football.

Tennis

Happy new year I hope you have enjoyed your break. We are looking forward to your child being part of our Tennis programme this term. As of January, we are excited to be able to offer additional weekend training sessions for our students.

Swimming

Our ECA and Swim Squad will be back in action starting this Monday 14 January 2019.  We will also have some of the important meets coming up in Term 2 including the Puppy Cup @ BKKP in January, ANS Sprint in February, and our very own Marlin Mayhem in March.

We are also very excited to be able to offer Synchronized Swimming as an ECA for the very first time. Primary School Synchronized Swimming ECA will be starting on Wednesday 23 January at the High School campus from 3.00 -4.00 p.m.

This past Saturday, our Primary Marlins joined their High School team-mates at the FOBISIA Swimming Championships 2019. An excellent performance from our Primary swimmers as they helped STA to 3rd place overall in team scores. All your commitment in training is certainly paying off.  Good job, Marlins.

Term 1 Review

What an amazing Term 1 it was. So many different children competing for St Andrews International School Bangkok in a variety of sports from swimming, football, basketball, teeball, dance, gymnastics, tennis, triathlon, X country, golf. The highlights for me have been our International trips, plus the growth of our gymnastics and dance teams.

Sporting Conferences

We appreciate that you are often hearing different acronyms - TISAC, BISAC, FOBISIA - that we are involved in but may not know much about them. We hope that the following overview will therefore be useful.

We are currently members of four conferences or organisations:

TISAC: Thailand International Schools Activities Conference

We have been members for many years. This has 16 schools involved which vary in size from small to very large. Currently, we mostly enter Blaze teams in TISAC. There are leagues and tournaments in several sports from U9-U19 and next year, TISAC will also start its own multi-sport Games for Primary children.

BISAC: Bangkok International Schools Athletic Conference

This is our first year in BISAC. The 12-school membership includes the largest international schools in Bangkok in leagues and tournaments across many sports, from U9-U19, split into four seasons through the year. BISAC schools also run invitational tournaments.

FOBISIA: Federation of British International Schools in Asia

This has three major multi-sport Games per year (Primary, U13 and U15) that take place in Phuket against other schools across Asia. There are also single-sport events in Tennis, Golf, Swimming and more, which take place across Asia and provide some amazing travel opportunities.

NAE: Nord Anglia Education

We are part of the South East Asia division and meet for a U11 multi-sport Games once a year. Our schools take it in turn to host the NAE Games.

In addition, we are part of the wider circuit regionally which means we are invited to a whole range of other events across Thailand.

Currently we are able to offer STA students opportunities through these conferences in Football, Basketball, Swimming, Tennis, Badminton, Golf, Teeball, Track and Field, Triathlon, Cross Country.

If you have any questions about these conferences, please don’t hesitate to contact Mr. Damon (damon.se@standrews.ac.th).
