Year 2 meet real-life superheroes,  FS3 children go football crazy and Y1 parents go back  to school to learn how numeracy is being taught to their children. And don’t forget that Book Week is fast-approaching so it’s time to start thinking about a costume for the Book Character Parade. Parents are reminded that next Monday is an INSET day.

Superhero Day

Before the break, the Y2 classes were developing their super-powers through their Superhero topic and were lucky enough to meet some real-life Superheroes from the emergency services on the final day of the half term.  Meeting ambulance crews and members of the fire service was certainly an exciting way to spend the day and gave the children the opportunity to find out more about their jobs and the equipment that they use.

Football Crazy

A massive thank you should go out this week to Mr Stuart and his staff from BSS, who came along on Tuesday morning before the break to provide a brilliant training session for all three of the FS3 classes. It was an incredibly well organised session that engaged all of the children for an exciting hour of football fun. The children demonstrated a lot of amazing skills and listened so carefully as the rules for each activity were explained. I am sure there were some World Cup Stars of the future starting their careers at St Andrews International School Bangkok on Tuesday morning.  Well done everybody!

Year 1 Numeracy Workshop for Parents

The Y1 Team held a well attended maths meeting on the Friday before half term.  Parents who came along were able to use some of the manipulatives that we use in school to support numeracy development and also take on some of the challenges that the children engage in during their lessons. The teachers explained how maths was much more than adding larger and larger numbers, and the importance of logic, reasoning, explaining and application.

Book Week

This year, Book Week takes place in the week beginning 25 March. We usually have a visiting author, however, this year, for a change, we will be inviting an author and illustrator - Karin Littlewood - in to work with the children. As always, during the week the children will take part in a range of activities and competitions based around books. The week will finish on 29 March with our annual Book Character parade. You have plenty of time to start getting creative and think of a fantastic book character costume for your children to wear for the parade.

INSET Day Reminder

Parents are reminded that next Monday, 4 March 2019, is a INSET day where school is closed for students.
