NAE Virtual Musician of the Year 2021: Award-winning performances This year's Nord Anglia Education Virtual Young Musician of the Year Competition was bigger and more impressive than ever! Over 1300 students from 61 schools entered the competition, submitting over 6,500 minutes of performance videos, and the team of judges reviewed every single minute of every single video.

Wow, just wow! The results are in, and we are blown away. The performing arts at St Andrews are flourishing!

Virtual Young Musician of the Year 2021

After an extremely successful launch in 2020, the Virtual Musician of the Year was relaunched for 2021. There were different musical categories to enter into, along with age groups. This competition was available to our students, both in Primary and High School. 

Our magical performances

We had some incredible performances all round from our talented St Andrews students. There were a vast array of music styles and genres. We had traditional Thai instrumentals, heavenly classical performances and even some blasts from the past with throwback songs from rockstars and award-winning tunes from musicals.

Now before we show all the winning performances in action, we would like to congratulate and thank everyone for entering their performances into the competition. To highlight the fierce competition and magnitude of this achievement, see the below statistics: 

Now onto the winning performances 

In total, we had 7 winners — 4  in Primary and 3 in High School.

Primary Winners: 

• Isaac (Year 4) - Brass Category -  Winner 

Powerful performance - Isaac stood out from the crowd on the Trumpet. 

•  Aya (Year 4) - Percussion Category - Winner

A beautiful melody - A tuneful, traditional and extremely skilful performance on the Khim.

• Tien (Year 4) - Piano Category - 2nd place Winner 

Majestic - a lovely piano piece

• Vicente (Year 4) - Instrumental Category - 2nd place Winner

A magical performance - Vicente stunned us with great vocals, piano skills and the harmonica.

High School Winners: 

• Amee (Year 10) - Composition Category - Winner

Tremendous - Amee's superb piano performance. 

• Amy (Year 8) - Woodwind Category - Winner  

Outstanding - Amy's tuneful, magical and confident performance.

• Chanon (Year 8) - Brass Category - 2nd place Winner

Chanon made us dream - a classic tune that will be stuck in your heads if you watch the video.

Global Campus #Connectingwiththeworld

This music competition is exclusively for the 70 schools in the Nord Anglia Education group. It sits under 'Global Campus', a virtual online learning hub and community available to all our students. Our St Andrews students in Thailand can connect and be inspired by 70,000 students and 70 schools in over 30 countries worldwide. There are countless competitions listed here for St Andrews students to enter. These can range from competitions in STEAM, sports and the performing arts subjects.
