Special Educational Support

The Embracing Differences Programme at St Andrews includes, supports and educates students with special needs and learning challenges. We are able to offer a dynamic range of services and activities qualified trained specialists to support our students.

At St Andrews International School Bangkok, our mission is to provide an inclusive, international education in a safe, happy, supportive and stimulating environment where all the needs of the individual learner are met. Students are inspired to be the best they can be, enabling them to become responsible global citizens.

Students who currently access our STARS programme at Primary School have the opportunity to transition onto The “Embracing Differences” (ED) Programme, which offers similar units of work when moving up to Year 7. We also welcome new students from other schools if our programme satisfies their learning requirements. The ED Programme focuses on a range of enriched units of work for special educational needs students to engage, ask questions and have fun whilst learning.

The Embracing Differences (ED) core programmes such as Math, English, Science, History, Geography and ICT are individualised accordingly to how the student engages and learns best. Our specialist team will perform pre-assessments at the beginning of Term 1 to get to know each of the student’s learning style. Once pre-assessments have been performed,  Specialists will then differentiate learning goals and resource programmes to fit the requirements of the students. ED classes are kept small and staff-to-student ratios are well balanced so that the students get the support they need.

Lessons in the ED are designed to be varied and engaging in order to accommodate students' emotional regulation throughout day. Learning doesn’t stop there, however. Students in the Embracing Differences programme also have the opportunity to take part in offerings such as cooking, gardening, rock climbing, swimming and a range of included therapy programmes. The aim of the programmes is to build confidence, social skills, reduce anxieties, encourage different ways of thinking, as well as learning important life skills. More personalised assistance such as Hippotherapy is available upon request.

So that our students on the “Embracing Differences” programme get the highest level of support, the team rotates students between therapy sessions, offsite activities and classroom-based learning so that the student-to-staff ratio is kept well balanced throughout the programmes.

At St Andrews we encourage all students to get the very best out of their education, regardless of their special educational needs. The Embracing Differences team recognises our students' strengths so If there is an opportunity to access the mainstream setting for a particular session, then we try to accommodate that transition the best we can.
