Art Therapist and Primary School Counselor

Wonderful to meet you all! I am St. Andrew's Art Therapist and Primary School Counselor... I currently have more than a decade's worth of experience working as a Visual Arts Teacher with various age levels from Early Years to Year 13. I began teaching in the United States working with at-risk inner city children teaching art and creating large scale murals to beatify neighborhoods within the Philadelphia School district. From this experience I became passionate about working with at-risk as well as special needs education. While in the States I gave private lessons to students which led me into specializing in children with GDD, PDD and ASD. I moved to Thailand in 2010, continuing my passion for teaching as well as special education. I worked in several International schools as well as giving private art lessons around the Bangkok area. I began my own Children's Art Club in Koh Lipe, Thailand which is still being run at Castaway Resort today! I received a BFA in Painting and Art Education from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia and a MA in Art Therapy and Mental Health Counseling from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. I also have experience in the United States Coastguard working as a law enforcement and border patrol officer in South and Central America. Besides working at St Andrews International School Bangkok with learning support, special education, art therapy and counseling I work with two NGO's in Bangkok and Hanoi, Vietnam giving art therapy intervention to human-trafficking and trauma survivors. This is what I will complete for my dissertation as well as my PhD research. I have also given several types of training on Self-Care, Art Therapy implementation with NGO's throughout Southeast Asia and and I am presenting my research of Art Therapy benefits for trauma using the NDAT model with Tyler School of Art, Temple University. I am currently a member of the AATA - American Art Therapy Association and the NEA National Education Association. A few of my special secret skills are: exhibiting artist in Southeast Asia/Europe, singing in a band, playing the drums and previously working at a Divemaster in Koh Lipe I look forward to meeting you all, please don't hesitate to get in contact with me through the school office or my school email.
